“Great Historic Hotel”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

My girlfriend and I booked the Romantic Getaway package and had a great time. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. We orderd the filet mignon with mashed potatoes at MacArthur Restauant and I have to say it was a meal to remember, the filet was cooked as ordered and it melted in your mouth. We also like the Zulu Lounge on the second floor which overlooks the Hudson River and the courtyard below. We toured the grounds and were lucky enough to see the Army Band perform and watch an exceptional fireworks display. If you haven't been to West Point, I strongly recommend you stay at the Thayer.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We are excited to announce our new menus perfectly crafted by Executive Chef Marc Muniz and even more so that you enjoyed the delicious entrees. Zulu Time Lounge is Hudson Valley’s only Rooftop Bar and we are happy you were able to experience the best we have to offer.

Thank you so much for a lovely weekend. My husband and I were joined by another couple for the weekend. We had been there before and were quite anxious to share our experience with them.
We spent Saturday afternoon at Storm King Art Center and got to the Thayer in time for cocktail hour. Cocktail hour on the outdoor terrace is always very pleasant. The view is spectacular and the weather cooperated nicely.
As for our rooms, we were so surprised when we were both upgraded to a suite. Our rooms were spacious and clean. I watched TV in the living room, while my husband napped in the bedroom. We did not interfere with each other. We had two closets, coffee maker and refrigerator.
We had our dinner in the main restaurant. The food and service were excellent. The portions were so large, that my friend took one crabcake home with her the next day. The waiter was so funny. He kept us laughing throughout the meal.
The next morning, we had the customary Sunday brunch on the terrace. The food was so good and there was so much available. I didn't know where to begin and when to end.
Unfortunately, I ate too much. The endless cup of coffee was really good. We spent Sunday afternoon at the West Point museum.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

Our first time at the classic Thayer Hotel built in 1929 at West Point and it was a wonderful experience. The place is impeccable, the beds comfy and the food & view was well worth the cost. If there's a buffet, don't be reluctant to indulge. Ask to sit outside while dining but you can also see the Hudson River and a wide expanse of trees.
The hotel staff was responsive and helpful. Take a tour of West Point Academy and view the "iron rings" while you are there.

Thank you for taking the time to share your first experience. The Thayer Hotel has been proudly serving our guests since 1926 and will continue with our standards of service excellence. We agree with your recommendation for guests to take advantage of our spectacular views of the Hudson River either on the patio of MacArthur’s Restaurant or on our rooftop bar, Zulu Time.

My boyfriend and I stayed there recently and absolutely loved it. We stayed in the executive suite which was beautiful. The hotel is so unique. We had very friendly service at checkin. You can walk around the lobby and hallways and feel the history in this hotel. We would love to try and make it back, if we can. We had the filet mignon for dinner, which I we both have to say, was the very best we have ever eaten and we eat out alot. The views were also very beautiful. I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: We had the executive suite so we did not have a chance to see the regular rooms.

We do hope that you will be able to make it back for another visit so that you can see more of West Point and the Hudson Valley. Our newly renovated executive suites are where modern day amenities meet the historic charm of The Thayer Hotel which was erected in 1926. Thank you for sharing your experience with us: we are so pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay, in particular the dining experience at MacArthur’s Restaurant. We are delighted that our team served the best steak that you have ever had: Executive Chef Marc Muniz and his Sous Chef are both graduates of the Culinary Institute of America and bring decades of experience with fine dining.

My family and I really enjoy staying at the Thayer whenever visiting West Point. It's comfortable, familiar and alive with excitement and a sense of commaraderie with alumni and other families whose sons and daughters attend West Point. The CONVENIENCE of being on post is a tremendous benefit in that you can easily take a "pit stop" from the day's activities without having to drive back and forth to another hotel. The STAFF is friendly and helpful. The ROOMS are comfortable with many scenic views of the Hudson and surrounding areas. I would second another reviewers comment that a room facing the Hudson is preferable in that it's quieter and more picturesque. The RESTAURANTS offer a variety of dining experiences. My wife and I recenlty had dinner on the Thomas Jefferson patio overlooking the Hudson. You'd be hard pressed to find a more spectacular view while enjoying a delicious meal from MacArthurs restaurant. The hotel is also within easy walking distance of the quaint town of Highland Falls where you can enjoy shopping, dining and having ice cream on the street.

Room Tip: I prefer the side facing the Hudson. It's quieter and more picturesque.

As the only full-service hotel on West Point, we serve a diverse group of guests who come to visit cadets, watch sporting events, or to get away from the hustle and bustle of New York City: but while each guest visits for a different reason, we are able to offer each what you experienced: spectacular views, a convenient location to West Point and activities in the Hudson Valley, as well as delicious dining options in the hotel. Thank you for sharing your enjoyable stay, and for your kind words. We have shared your review with our staff.

I had been wanting to stay at The Thayer Hotel for an Army football weekend for a very long time, and finally had the opportunity to do so. The Thayer may be an "old" hotel ... but ... it's beautifully maintained, and extremely clean. Being located on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy, there is, not surprisingly, Army history in virtually every nook and cranny. Plus, the hotel's location on the banks of the mighty Hudson River is spectacular, especially now during Fall foliage season. The pageantry of the cadet parade on The Plain and the football game at Michie Stadium is most enjoyable. This was a "Father/Son Weekend" that my son and I will long have fond memories of!

Room Tip: You will have a quieter evening if you're able to choose a room that's away from the rooftop...

There is plenty of history here at The Thayer Hotel at West Point. With our recent multi-million dollar renovation, we take pride in merging modern day amenities with the historic military gothic architecture. We are glad you were able to enjoy a wonderful “Father/Son Weekend” and invite you to return to enjoy the tradition. We love to hear about guests who have made their own history at our historic hotel.
