“Magnificent!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

I had been wanting to stay at The Thayer Hotel for an Army football weekend for a very long time, and finally had the opportunity to do so. The Thayer may be an "old" hotel ... but ... it's beautifully maintained, and extremely clean. Being located on the grounds of the U.S. Military Academy, there is, not surprisingly, Army history in virtually every nook and cranny. Plus, the hotel's location on the banks of the mighty Hudson River is spectacular, especially now during Fall foliage season. The pageantry of the cadet parade on The Plain and the football game at Michie Stadium is most enjoyable. This was a "Father/Son Weekend" that my son and I will long have fond memories of!

Room Tip: You will have a quieter evening if you're able to choose a room that's away from the rooftop...

There is plenty of history here at The Thayer Hotel at West Point. With our recent multi-million dollar renovation, we take pride in merging modern day amenities with the historic military gothic architecture. We are glad you were able to enjoy a wonderful “Father/Son Weekend” and invite you to return to enjoy the tradition. We love to hear about guests who have made their own history at our historic hotel.

We had a wonderful visit to West Point and our stay at The Thayer Hotel was outstanding. We stayed in one of the fourth floor rooms - they have been redone and they are very comfortable and well decorated. The grounds were very well maintained and with the historic setting, it made for great picture taking. Additionally, the food at the hotel's restaurant was excellent. We also liked the outdoor atmosphere of the Zulu Time bar area. The hotel was very convenient for us in getting around the campus and we found walking to be comfortable for us. The fall colors were just beginning but there was enough to make it memorable. The staff is very helpful and responsive. This is a great place to stay either for a weekend get-a-way or overnight for an athletic event.

Room Tip: Rooms not on the river side are a little quieter because the Zulu Time bar is on the river side, but...

I took my fiance to West Pointe for his birthday. We were both very impressed with the hotel and the staff. Only regret was we did not take pictures! My faince, being retired military was very impressed and enjoyed the entire trip. The food was excellent, the view from the dining area was incredible. I would highely recommend this hotel and hope to go back in the future.

This is a beautiful old hotel with history everywhere. The fourth floor has a wall of historic graduates that is very interesting and it is worth your time to see the displays. The Gen, Patton bar is nice and my wife says it is cozy. The restaurant and service were very good except for charging for one drink I didn't get. The maid service along with the towels were just OK. The maid did not leave face cloths and neglected to actually finish cleaning the bath room one day. (We stayed 3 nights.) The towels were thin and poorer than you would expect in a nice hotel. Upon receiving my bill for checkout, I quickly noticed I had been charged a second time for the room as we had prepaid, This was quickly corrected by the front desk, but since they acknowledged the prepayment at check-in, I was surprised by this error. I would still recommend this hotel just check your charges.

My wife and our 2 teenage children spent the weekend at this historic and stately hotel with its unbelievable river and mountain views for a family wedding. Upon arrival, Miguel met us at the entrance. He unloaded our bags, valet parked our car, and delivered our luggage to our room. At check-in, we were advised that we had been upgraded to an executive level room that included a king size bed, pull out sofa, two televisions, walk in closet, and large bathroom. The staff servicing the wedding events, as well as everyone we encountered in the restaurant, lounge, and throughout the hotel, were extremely friendly, professional, and efficient. Everything about our stay was outstanding. Thank you.

Room Tip: An upper level of the executive section is preferred.

Sylvanus Thayer, the "Father of West Point," would be proud of the job the new owners have done to restore both the appearance and the heritage of this magnificent structure on the grounds adjoining the Untied States Military Academy. The hotel is clean, well maintained (to strict military standards) and is being updated to include many valuable mementos of the history of West Point and its many well known graduates. it is a pleasure to walk the well manicured grounds of the hotel, read the memorial inscriptions, tributes and view the photos, portraits, and sculptures representing the rich history of the Academy and its distinguished graduates. The rooms are newly refurbished, many are small scale museums depicting the lives of distinguished graduates. The improved quality of the rooms is exceeded only by the improvement in the food quality. The breakfast buffet is terrific, giving travelers more than enough quality selections to enjoy a day of hiking, driving or relaxing in the nearby environs. Lunch, looking over the great vistas to the campus and Hudson Valley is a wonderful experience, and dinner under the watchful eye of the new chef and staff is a dining experience. The Thayer is not just a beautiful old hotel, it has a fully equipped conference center, state of the art high speed internet and communications plant and staff trained to meet the needs of any modern business. It also houses the Thayer Leadership Development Group, a nationally recognized group of executive development professionals that brings the best elements of leadership training to both businesses and non-profit enterprises. More importantly though, the Thayer is an experience that will please anyone, with or without a connection to the institution.
