The hotel is an improvement from when I stayed there four years ago but it still has a ways to go. The room was nice but not luxury, the bathroom was clean and tidy. I enjoyed a drink out on the patio bar with the beautiful view. Dining at the hotel was average. I think they are improving but still have a way to go

Room Tip: Don;t go to the 8th floor.

Room large are bare, utterly without charm or warmth. Not even particularly clean. For almost $300, the small sink was in the corner of the room and the bathroom very makeshift. The bathroom door didn't close and the floor was covered with a weird sticky looking & feeling surface.

Had the please of saying in The Thayer Hotel on the grounds of West Point, out nation's military academy. The building itself sits on a high bluff, just inside the main gate. The views of the Hudson River Valley are stunning. Interesting photos of past dignitaries and generals line the walls. Be sure to request a river view room when staying there. Spend time in the West Point visitors center and museum. Be bold and walk the "quad" and see the cadets quickly moving to & fro. Take a peek at one of the largest dining facilities in the world. 4400 cadets are seated, three times a day and complete each meal in 20 minutes - go in during a non-meal time and take a look. You won't be turned away. Back at the hotel, enjoy a drink out on the patio bar with the beautiful view. Dining at the hotel is just so so but there are wonderful options right outside the main gate at local pubs and small restaurants. Go in the fall when the leaves are turning. Avoid a home football game unless you are there to root on the Black Knights.

Room Tip: River view is a must

Checked into a recently renovated room. The first hint was when I stepped off the elevator and was assaulted by an extremely strong chemical smell. My eyes watered!
Walked down a long hall to my room and the smell was virtually gone. Great.
Entered the room and the carpet which looked new was smeared with large patches of tried to be cleaned paint stains.
OK, no problem. Room was hot so turned on the floor unit air conditioner which is placed right next to the desk (less than a foot from the chair) so in order not to freeze my left side rigged a partial cover. OK no problem.
Easily signed on to the internet - Great!
Room had modern push button Lutron light switched. Unfortunately the bathroom light did not work properly and was difficult to turn on the light.
No television channel guide, found a partial one in the Guest Services directory which stated to see the rest tune into channel "0". Channel "0" did not work.
Room service dinner was goo and quick, except when I gave my room number as was listed on my phone it was incorrect. OK, no problem.
At 2 AM the lights in the bathroom started turning on and off every 30 seconds. This wokw me up and ruined a good night sleep. That was a problem.
I will avoid this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: Carefully check you room before unpacking.

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Thayer Hotel in July for a dedication ceremony. It is beautifully renovated with history throughout. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the staff very accommodating and the food was fantastic. We had a very memorable weekend, thanks to all who work there! I can not imagine a better place to be.

Room Tip: Choose a room if you can on the Distinguished Graduates floor. It is full of inspirational stories.

My immediate family, extended family and friends gathered at the Thayer Hotel for the Dedication of a room to a distinguished graduate. The floor containing the dedicated rooms is a trip thru history and a great pleasure to share, especially with young people. The rooms are tastefully and thoughtfully prepared and presented.
The staff is well-trained, thoughtful and welcoming.
The food was outstanding and more than ample.
What an inspiring place to settle in for a trip thru the history of West Point and all the attributes it has provided the young men and women who protect our country.
Highly recommended from one who has traveled the world in the past 7o plus years.

Room Tip: Corner rooms especially nice and the floor with dedicated rooms is wonderful especially for young pe...

The last time I stayed at this hotel was more than 15 years ago, before I attended West Point as a cadet. At that time the hotel was run down and not really much different from the run down hotels outside the gate. In the last year, friends and classmates of mine have told me about the rennovations, so I decided to stay there on a recent visit to my alma mater. To say the hotel has turned around is an understatement. The hotel is in magnificient condition. The quality of the rooms and common areas are truly up to a 5 star standard. The service from check-in, to dining, to facilitating visits and excursions is probably the best I have had at least in the US. The fact that it has regained it's former glory AND is located on West Point (which is now more difficult to visit than when I was a cadet in the late 90s, makes the Thayer the only option for a quick excursion to the academy. The sunday brunch, a staple of the Academy, is better than I remember as a cadet. Kuddos to the management and staff, and I hope that the hotel joins the Small Luxury Hotels of the World in the near future. The quality of the facilities and service experience are truly a 5 star experience. Well done.

Room Tip: The hotel recently implemented a room dedication program. They have rooms dedicated to famous grads...
