“Comfortable and Clean”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

Just 5 mins drive out of town centre this lodge is at a good location but I would not recommend for someone who does not have their own mode of transport. For our 2 night stay at aotearoa lodge we stayed in a superior room with super king bed. The room was spacious & bed was comfortable......our room had access to a deck that faced the front yard. The room had a TV/ bar fridge and basic tea/coffee making facilities. The shower was a bit old but clean, the water pressure is not much though.
There is a small kitchen in the lounge that was quite handy for me as I could heat food for my lil one or even for ourselves when we felt like a midnight snack :)
The hosts were very helpful they helped us create an itinerary and the lady also found us a baby sitter when we wanted to visit the lost springs.
All in all a good experience ...would recommend.

Room Tip: I would recommend going for their superior rooms if they are not making a major dent in your pocket

We booked the two bedroom self catering apartments for a couple of nights. The location is a bit out of the main Whitianga town but if you have transport its just a 3 minute drive. We preferred the location as it was quiet and had nice gardens.

Darrel and Lynett were very helpful and told us about the surrounding areas and when to it was low tide and when best to visit hot water beach and cathedral coves (both 25 minute drive from the hotel). They also lent us some spades to dig there.

The rooms itself - room 12 was fine and the beds extremely comfortable. We enjoyed our stay at the lodge and no complaints - only quirk i can remember was that the sink in the washroom had separate hot and cold water taps - so we could use either cold or hot couldn't mix - :-)

Didn't use the wi-fi there so couldn't comment on that.

All in all we would recommend for some R&R time and thanks Daryl for the feijoas from the garden. They were delicious !!

Staying at the Aotearoa Lodge is an ideal location to sight see the nearby attractions as well as the Coromandel Coast. The room we stayed in was small and included a small fridge andTV. Wi Fi is available .We were given a Password when requested however were not able to access. It has been recently refurbished and beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is a standard continental with the basic cereals, fruit and toast, yogurt. On arrival the Hostess Linette did not take time to explain the amenities available..laundry facility,a lounge area. She did however direct us to nearby restaurants and small grocery store when we asked re same.

Room Tip: Corner room with a private outdoor patio

We had a standard room with a very small bathroom/shower room, separated only by a sliding door from the main room. Everything was clean though, and the room faced a garden that was very quiet. Breakfast was included in our rate and it was great muesli and yoghurt and bread and jam with a variety of teas. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. The place is a bit outside of town- only a short drive by car though and really quiet. Would stay there again.

From the moment darryl welcomed us we knew that this would be the best time we would have in NZ.Our room was amazing. it was with sliding doors and the view from the backyard garden was amazing. It was a start of summer so the mornings and evenings were very best. We still remember the feeling when we opened the door to garden for the very first time. Breakfast options were very good as we prefer only veg. Darryl took us to the beautiful town of whitianga. He became our very good friend. We loved the hospitality and cleanliness of the place where we stayed...Darryl has an amazing sense of hospitality as he knew where to take us as per our preferences whether it is about our food, shopping or places which we would like to visit..If we get chance to visit NZ again for sure we are coming to room no 7 and we gonna stay there longer...Must visit and highly recommended......:)

Room Tip: ask for Room no 7!!

This was our first stop after Auckland, and after a very long day driving the scenic route arrived in Whitianga. The Lodge is a little out of the town but is so peaceful and the garden beautiful. We stayed two nights and had a room with sliding doors opening onto the decking and then onto the garden which was fantastic. The room and bathroom were both very clean and tidy, and the bed was amazingly comfortable. Both Lynette and Darryl were really friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend.

Room Tip: ask for a room with access to the decking

We had a standard room and it was very small indeed with no storage space whatsoever and no hanging space either (discounting the hooks on the back of the door!). Small bed, poor TV channel choice.
Continental breakfast was fine and cooked options available at extra cost.
WiFi was included for us, but otherwise a paid service and fairly weak with many sharing bandwith.
Very basic, but clean, accommodation about 5 mins from centre.
Hosts friendly and Darryl offers boat trips and tours.
