“Little gem!”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

An amazingly peaceful place of seclusion, we spent two nights and enjoyed every moment of this wonderful lodge.
We highly recommend using the treehouse bath and the jacuzzi, and don't forget to grab a bucket and spade and make the trip to Hot Water Beach!
We also went sea kayaking with Cathedral Cove Sea Kayaking while we stayed here, which was absolutely amazing, we highly recommend staying at Wairua Lodge and going for a kayak.
We were not so impressed with Coromandel Township itself, but the peninsula on a whole was delightful!

The owners were very friendly, they gave us a tour of their ample property and were always around when we needed them. They were very helpful with directions and sites to stop at.
I liked the privacy of the rooms away from the main house and the bedroom was lovely. I thought the bathroom was ok, but it was finished as well and I did find a few spiders, which is to be expected in a rural setting. In terms of entertainment, you can visit the glow worms, go on a small hike within the grounds, there was a large range of dvds to choose from, and an area to relax near an open fire, which the owners kindly lit for us. The bath looking out onto the waterfall was so special.

Downside was breakfast. I would have expected a full English of something more than bread and spreads. I would have happily woken up on time to have a sit down breakfast like every other place I have been in.

Truly, this place is amazing. Tam and Charles are perfect hosts - there when you need them, and not when you don't. The land itself is gorgeous, with many walking trails and a crystal clear stream to sit by and walk through and waterholes to swim in. And we did! Sitting in the outdoor bath with the sounds of the stream below is something to remember. The kitchen is well equipped so our advice is take enough food for lunches and dinners and don't leave this beautiful place until you have to!

Picture this !! Your lodging is a B&B anchored amid 15 acres of native forest, flanked by creeks and swimming holes. We found our studio, cosy to the max with the swimming river a drop away.
Breakfast was wonderful with lovely table setting. We love natural settings without crowds,so sleep was assured with the bird life at twilight amazing.
Be aware this is a retreat, not a place to slip out for night life. The unsealed road, will probably dissuade you from driving at nocturnal hours. Its a short distance,by the way.
Tip-top spot and very reasonable

Bit late on writing a review. We stayed here in early 2012, the only thing that let it down was the rain!!! Great place, loved it, would definitely recommend it to anyone, such a lovely relaxing location.
