The thing that makes this place great is the welcome by the hosts as you arrive, constantly cheery and helpful service, and the gobsmacking location. Barbequeing on the beach, watching the waves anyone? We went in early spring, and despite rainy days, the location and relaxed beachy feel of the motel was excellent. Really tidy, well kept units, good cooking facilities in the rooms, great views and location.

Bit of a stretch to call it a resort, mind you. It's a motel. Our unit's fixtures were feeling a little tired, but really, are you there to judge the quality of the shower and the light fixtures? They're tidy, they work, they're well kept. No, you're there to look at the sea, have another wine, go for another stroll on the beach, and plan another day of adventure or relaxation with the excellent advice of the hosts.

(Beds are very soft, by the way. Restless sleeper couples may want to make sure their room has a couple of bed options.)

I thought the photos had been airbrushed - absolutely not - the photos simply cannot capture what a wonderful spot this is! The view is simply breathtaking. The unit we stayed in (number 1) was simply appointed, clean and perfectly sufficient. There are buckets and spades for the kids, a trampoline, kayaks (with life jackets) to be used by guests, and a fantastic BBQ area right on the edge of the beach. Paul and Kate were fantastic - just the right amount of helpfulness and presence. The resort is just far enough out of town that it's not completely mad. There is a fish and chip shop and a 4 square within walking distance. We had a brilliant time with our 7 and 3 year old, who thought the resort was absolutely fantastic. We only stayed for 2 nights, which wasn't enough, and we will definitely be back. We have raved about this place to friends and family already.

Room Tip: We stayed in unit 1, which is on the ground and is closest to the area with the kayaks. It's go...

When the hosts named their place "Beachfront" they knew no one was going to question them about it. The place is right on the beach so much so that you really can hear the waves and get lulled to sleep. The brochure does not mention this added bonus.

Awesome view. Great service. Squeaky clean room. Very, very accomodating hosts.

We have stayed there twice so far and we have not been disappointed. The place is wonderful and the facilities are great. Photos on the website do not do justice. This place is stunning and children-friendly. The owners add a special touch to this place. We will definitely go back.

My wife and I ran away for a weekend, headed off from Tauranga not sure where we would end up, with no plans drove until we got to Whitianga came across Beachfront Resort, "WOW" wonderful service from the moment we arrived, wonderful room on the second floor amazing views, actually slept with our balcony door open both nights as the sound of the waves rolling in was just so relaxing. We ordered breakfast for our first morning there, very yummy loved the bacon! All in all really cant wait to get back, had a lovely time, hosts amazing:)

We loved our weekend here in a beachfront room (not sure the others would be so good). I have stayed in other places in Whitianga but this was the best. Waking up to the sun shimmering on the sea, then a moody moment as the clouds go by, miles of ocean to look onto beyond the attractive garden & no road between you & beach. The facilities were clean & good & the owners were so nice& friendly too.

Room Tip: Pick the beach front - they are more expensive - but worth it

I almost think we stayed at a different motel than the others? Granted it was beach front, but for $250 in Winter we thought would be amazing. It wasnt. The room was clean but was dated (like a painted concrete motel room from the 70's) and needed some bathroom repairs (holes in walls needed plugging where hand rails used to be etc) Back door opened directly onto 2 single beds squashed into small space and the wind coming under the door made it very cold. Loo not seperated from shower other than when curtain pulled. We stayed ground floor and looked nothing like the photos on website. Compared to others we stayed at (at half this price) in the area this was poor and were not surprised there was only 2 cars in the parking area. Delightful host on arrival and exit. Only additional extra was a communal spa pool. Would not recommend

Room Tip: Seems from other comments upstairs would be better?
