“A must stay in the Margaret River”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

We stayed for three nights and wished we could have stayed longer! Our room and bathroom (spa bath) was lovely. We were in room 3 which was next to the dining area - there was no noise at all. We were welcomed warmly on arrival, shown around and breakfast etc was explained to us. We were then escorted to our room where again everything was explained. VIP treatment. Our room faced the garden which was delightful. The gardens were beautiful but unfortunately due to the cool weather we didn't get to experience the lovely pool. Next time. Dinner at Windmills is a 5 star experience. Windmills are lucky to have a gifted and innovative Chef. We only ate there one night as the restaurant was not open the other two nights of our stay. We would definitely have eaten there every night if possible. The service was excellent at the restaurant. Commendable. My husband and I felt very spoilt and relaxed here. Windmills is well placed to access the Margaret River wineries and other fantastic sites such as Prevelly where the Margaret River meets the sea and Cape Leeuwin where two oceans met. Did we mention the DVD collection and the nightly port? Wish we were still there!! I travel extensively for work staying in many 5 star properties throughout Australia. This is truly one of the best. Enjoy your stay!

Spent a couple of nights here for a birthday treat. Lovely location and convenient for Dunsborough, Yallingup and beaches, but only if you have a car.

Rooms are nicely fitted out and well equipped and we had a great spa bath. Good selection of dvd's available to borrow for free.

Staff were generally pretty good, but lacked the personal touch that you get at neighbouring Empire Retreat. The main dining and bar area is an attractive space with lovely log fire in the winter. It was cool and rainy during our stay, so we didn't get to sit outside. However, looks like the grounds are very peaceful.

Dinner was very good with adequate service. Breakfast a bit limited, but had a great cooked breakfast. Help yourself cafetieres in the lounge all day are most welcome (and include decaff. option).

Negatives are minimal, but there is a slightly soulless feeling to the place and you have to drive to get anywhere with nothing really within walking distance.

We had an excellent weekend break away at Windmills, everything is as you would want. The grounds and facilities are excellent, the staff are helpful walking us around the grounds and into our room. We had a huge spa bath, great for unwinding after the drive down from Perth.
The best part of our stay was the restaurant, a true dining experience. 10/10 for the entree, main and dessert. We had wine to match, excellent. The fires in the dining room make a great atmosphere. Breakfast was as good as dinner, reading the paper in the sunny dining room.
We would recommend Windmills Break to anyone visiting Margaret River region.

Room Tip: Ask for a spa room with the garden view window.

We arrived at Windmills early afternoon after a leisurely drive down from Perth. We were very impressed with the presentation of the resort from the outside even before we went inside. The grounds are fantastic with an abdundance of local birdlife.
Brigitte greeted us and we were checked in with a minimum of fuss. She showed us all the facilitiies including the TV room with its 500 DVD's.
Our room was spacious with its own courtyard and a gate to the car park.
Erin and Bree were the other staff ,members with whom we had the most interaction. They could not have been more helpful.
During our stroll around the grounds we were kept company by kookaburras and native finches.
This resort left nothing with which we were unhappy. It is a 10/10 property.

A lovely place to unwind in a great spot. Windmills has great staff, well equiped and comfy rooms and the (free) port by the fire in the evening is the icing on the cake. My wife and I have stayed here before and on this visit to MR being pregnant all she wanted to do was come to Windmills, do not much and well, mainly just sit and read by the fire, drink tea and eat the free muffins. We can always recommend Madfish/Howard Park for good wine, Voyager for the amazing grounds and rose garden and for some lovely pottery give Willyabrup Dreaming a visit.

We had an amazing time break away at Windmills. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms and gardens were beautiful. Breakfast was lovely start to the day in the cozy restaurant and the Expresso Martinis by the fire each evening was the perfect way to end our day. We didn't venture far during the day with Clancy's Fish Pub 3ks east and Caves House 3ks west, perfect positioning!
