“Stay Here Not There”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

It is really hard to compare lodgings sometimes - why give this one that extra star and not another, which might be more luxurious, better appointed or have every service area covered? Sometimes it's out of sheer gratitude, and that's the case here. We had a really hard time finding good accommodation in Western Australia. We love travel and maybe are a little picky about the quality of hotels, food and amusements. In addition, the fact that we have children does not mean we want to stay in Butlins. We have been continually surprised that in Australia, a laid-back country by repute, many of the best hotels and resorts exclude children. We were left with few options, so we seized on the Yallingup Luxury Retreat as it sounded like the only place in all of the Margaret River region which remotely fit the bill. What a delight! We were at first disconcerted with the lack of obvious staffing, but everything happened, everything worked, the rooms were serviced. The grounds and buildings are extremely nice. The villas/cabins were modern and rustic all at once, with excellent use made of wood, glass, steel and stone in the design, fitting in beautifully with the surrounds. The kitchen/dining/living area was enormous and beautiful, as was the master suite. Bathrooms excellent. I loved the cheeky, sophisticated, sexy art, although that is of course a very subjective thing. Our children stayed in the neighbouring villa, which was separated only by a deck and breezeway (with a pretty water feature) from our own. They absolutely loved it. The villas are surrounded by attractive landscaping and decking giving away gracefully to nature a certain distance away. You were able to sit on the terrace and watch kangaroos, all manner of birds and other wildlife whilst having your morning coffee or evening glass of local wine. Activities and services can be arranged by consulting the menu in the villa and ringing to book. We had a delightful Tasmanian chef in one evening to make us a meal, which was really wonderful and a great memory for the kids. There are plenty of things for the whole family to do in the area, including beaches, walks and a local maze. Recommend the art gallery/cafe next door for lunch. The food was high standard, and I bought some beautiful handmade jewellery from the shop. All on all, this was so much better than we had reason to expect for family accommodation in the region that I have given it full marks. Thank you, you saved our holiday.

Staying in the deluxe pavilion at Yallingup Luxury Retreats, I was very excited for our three night stay after seeing pictures on the Internet and reading various positive reviews. When I arrived I was impressed by the size and solitude of the property, elements which impressed me throughout our stay, but was soon disappointed by the quality and age of the fixtures and fittings. I would expect a property charging $375 a night to be regularly updated, which this property hasn't been. It was great to be able to book this property in under a stay 3 pay 2 night deal, but to be honest that is the only thing that made it acceptable, I definitely don't think it is worth $375 a night.

Wonderful retreat. We stayed in a Studio Pavilion, which had a very luxurious bed & spa.

Only negative is was that when attached Pavilion was being rented we had a large amount of light from their living areas coming into our Pavilion. We would have also liked to have local produce in the welcome pack rather then supplies purchased at Coles.

Definitely worth 4.5 stars, we will be recommending it to our family & friends.

Works well for family accomodation - we had a luxury for ourselves plus a studio for the kids. Pretty, private and lots of wildlife (colourful birds) for our daughter to exclaim over. Excellent meal cooked for us by the chef on our first evening, plus a good welcome pack of food that took us 3 days of breakfasts to plough through.

The unit was stylish and has a spacious living room and luxurious master bed, and a kitchen with every facility (though with the Studio gallery and restaurant next door, and great lunches at wineries, you won't need it much). Only thing missing from ours was a plunge pool (which some other units have).

One thing I do find odd about Australia is that so many high-end places ban small children: I can understand the occasional one or two wanting to be adults-only but in Oz it seems to be most of them. Thank you Yallingup Luxury Retreat, for not being one of those and allowing us all to enjoy your surroundings and visit this lovely area of the world.

We stayed at Yallingup Luxury Retreat as a mini-getaway a week ago. What a stunning place! We stayed in a Deluxe Pavillion and it was just wonderful. From the moment we booked the service was superb - including a text message on our second day just checking in that everything was going okay.
The villa is just so beautiful - so beautifully constructed - the bedroom is huge, theres fluffy robes and a king sized bed. The kitchen has everything you need plus more and the '1st morning breakfast' is great - including freshly ground coffee that lasted us the 3 days we were there. Also, having a wood fire was just what we needed on the chilly winter days.
What we really loved though was the fact that there is no reception on site - you feel like you are in your very own little piece of paradise. Plus the location - its located so centrally in the south-west - close to everything you might want - wineries, galleries, beaches etc.
We have already recommended Yallingup Luxury Retreat to many people - and we will, without a doubt, be back again.
