We've spent the last 4 days in a 'Forrest View' suite. Very spacious suite, well appointed (lovely bed) and immaculately clean and trust me my partner is 'extremely particular'. The room was so large it rendered an otherwise average sized television somewhat inadequate for viewing from most of the room, especially the bed (or for middle aged eyes at least).

I had booked dinner in the restaurant for our first night and it was fantastic. The restaurant also doubles as the breakfast room and on all occasions the staff were attentive, polite, professional, yet unobtrusive. Service in WA is, as has been well documented, is pretty crap. It was an absolute pleasure to be served by people who took their job very professionally and displayed to utmost courtesy.

The food on all occasions was imaginative, satisfying, indeed faultless. Whilst one might expect establishments to make a showpiece of the evening menu, we were absolutely delighted with the effort and quality of the breakfast fare. Wine list was a little limited, with a heavy bias on the local fare but we had no trouble finding very pleasing drop to compliment our food.

Nothing more to add that hasn't already been said in previous effusive reviews.

Very happy to recommend Cape Lodge unreservedly and look forward to our next excuse to visit.

This is a gem in the busy hospitality-geared Margaret River Region. Many rival accommodation options are cheaper but few offer the same range of activities and almost none capture the Cape Lodge's blend of an intimate, relaxing and luxurious hideaway. The property is set on the Caves Road link road from Margaret River, Augusta, Yallingup and Dunsborough and is alongside a long list of premium winemakers. Cape Lodge has its private vineyard as its forecourt that leads to its main house and accommodation set around two lakes and beautifully manicured gardens. There is a range of accommodation choices with varying prices but we chose the mid-priced Superior Spa Room that we booked when it came up as a special deal that co-incided with our wedding anniversary. Coincidence? It was the best decision - the room was on the upper level with a view over the lawns and gardens to the pool. The room was spacious with a large walk-in bathroom, two-person spa, a lounge area, quality TV/DVD/CD players, in-room coffee plunger (and T2 teas), airconditioning, comfy kingsize bed and small balcony with table and chairs. We played tennis, swam and lounged in the pool ares, had a bush walk and generally wound down. Most guests go sightseeing during the day so that left the pool to ourselves during the day - bliss. The restaurant is world class with all fresh local ingredients and a menu that changes seasonally. Wines are from the region - including the property's own wine which is exclusively used in the restaurant - with a solid selection. But t's not just the facility and the food - the resort's success is due to its staff who are always very helpful, friendly and very knowledgable. We mentioned when booking that it was our anniversary and the restaurant surprised us with two flutes of champagne. Nice! Friends from interstate Australia always rave about Cape Lodge and that's just one hint at how good this place is. We normally choose different accommodation each time we travel but have vowed to return to Cape Lodge. Guests who don't like the price should compare it to a city hotel which is likely to have less activities, a less inspiring views, no secluded place for relaxation and probably less enthusiastic staff. It is also unlikely - really unlikely - that the city hotel would have a restaurant of such quality.

Room Tip: Superior Spa Room and look out for special deals.

My wife and I and four of our family friends stayed at Cape Lodge in Jan 2013. I would rate Cape Lodge as the most relaxing hotel experince we have enjoyed in Australia. The location setting demanded relaxation and the service and friendlessness from the staff was world class. They could not have done anything more to make our stay more enjoyable. The Restaurant also was world class and the best in Margaret River and I can still taste the Asian Omlette I had ever breakfast as it was a taste sensation. Can't wait in the future

Room Tip: The ambience of the Hotel is there for all to enjoy regardless of room location

Let me start by saying that overall this is a great place to stay. It is in a great location (just south of Yallingup) and in a great forest setting. Overall though I think it is overpriced for the quality of the rooms and the level of service. It does not compare to if you have paid the same price in a hotel in a major city.

Arrival was fine and met by the friendly front desk fellow and taken to our Forrest Spa Suite. The buildings holding the rooms are pretty soulless and do not retain the charm of the main building. The room itself is large but there is nothing much plush about it. This is one of the highest category rooms in the hotel. The furniture looks like it has come from IKEA and has no real warmth to it or the room. Housekeeping is also obsessed with getting stripes on to the velour fabric - bizarre! The view, on the other hand, is wonderful.

Although the air con looks like it has multiple settings it only has two, on and off. The bathroom, again large, is showing signs of wear and there were a number of cobwebs in corners. Again, it did not have the luxury feel you would expect and felt a little cheap. The toiletries were lovely and the pressure in the shower was pretty good.

I know this is going to seem like a small gripe but the one thing that really surprised us was that there was no turndown service. Of course anyone can turndown a bed but what is great about it is that water can be topped up and the room quickly freshened. For this price point, it should be a must.

We were surprised by the fact that we had a meal included in our rate (we love free) and it was the five course degustation menu. The restaurant overlooks a lake and is beautiful at sunset. We got one of the best tables in the house along the window. The food is nice but not spectacular. The menu was not that inventive. I am not sure how it got to be one of the top ten restaurants in the world. It is just not that good. The staff were very good but I have to say the wine waiter was a bit snooty. Our first glass of champagne was flat but quickly replaced and oddly not poured at the table. He also made a comment that he was "'orrified" to be serving chardonnay at a cold temperature when we made a comment that the white wines were not cold enough. We may be heathens by asking for colder wine but that was our preference.

Breakfast is also included in the room rate and served in the same restaurant. There is a basic range of continental options (most home made or locally sourced) and a menu with made to order hot options. Overall not bad and the staff nicely attentive.

We also had a tour and lunch at Voyager included in our rate (another surprise we were not aware of) and that was a nice touch. That said, and not the hotel's fault, lunch was described as two course but when we were given the menu it was only one....I do not count bread as a course! Still it was included so difficult to really complain.

We had dinner a second night from the a la carte menu and again the food was good but not outstanding. We did love the whipped truffle butter a bit too much though.

We used the pool a couple of times and it is in a lovely secluded area and wonderfully quiet. There is cold water provided and sunscreen and fly repellent. Room service is just a phone call away and it is a great spot to spend some time.

The hotel is generally very good and the service overall is excellent. I do think there are some other just as lovely options in the Margaret River area though and probably for less.

Very glad that I have stayed here but would most likely try somewhere else next time.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights in a superior spa suite and thought that it was very luxurious and comfortable. I enjoyed the quality of the shampoo, conditioner, soap and moisturiser very much, all sourced from a local olive business. Definitely an exceptional touch of luxury! All staff were most impressive and extremely helpful and knowledgeable from the moment of making the reservation. Follow up emails from Cape Lodge were helpful in advising us of how to make the most of our time there. All meals in the restaurant were impressive and delicious with outstanding service again. The swimming pool area was fantastic and comfortable and the pool side service was excellent. We had to leave at 7.00 am to catch a flight in Perth and were surprised when breakfast was delivered to our room the evening before with fresh fruits, juices and other temptations. It just seemed that everything we needed was offered with a smile. Very beautiful setting with magnificent gardens and trees. Best hotel experience ever and we have travelled extensively.

Beautiful lodge for few restful days. Out of the way so car is required . Staff courteous and professional . Would certainly recommend for a special stay. We did unfortunately not have a chance to use the beautiful restaurant

Room Tip: I would personally recommend the garden view rooms on one level

Recently stayed at Cape Lodge for our 10th anniversary and had a wonderful stay. We stayed in a superior spa suite - which was comfortable (although not spectacular). This style of room has a shower over a deep spa bath so was a bit awkward getting in and out, tiles were a little tired & chipped in places too. Next time we would choose the garden view room or forest view spa room as both have walk in showers (and underfloor heating for winter stays).

The pool area was very nice and very popular with temperatures in the mid 30's. Lovely grounds too with lots of native birds.

The staff were exceptional and extremley well trained and the restaurant was superb. The service was impeccable throughout our stay, professional and warm, the food was sublime and very consistent for each of the 4 nights we dined. Tony Howell and his team work incredibly hard with exceptional attention to detail to plate fabulous quality fine dining food again & again - even the breakfasts were Exceptional. If you are a food lover there can be no better place to stay in the Margaret River region.

Room Tip: Awkward shower above spa in superior spa suite - go with garden view room or forest spa if you want...
