First class food, very friendly and helpful staff, just a shame that the only views are of the adjoining apartments and a very nondescript sand dune!

On our trip to the South west we eat out most days. It was getting late and we were hungry. We drove past Gunyulgup Gallery and thought we would eat at Lamonts. It was shut, we missed out by 3 days, the signs did redirect us to Smiths Beach though.

Another 10 minutes and we were in the car park.

A warm day, so we sat at the front of the restaurant, just inside the door as the sun still had a sting and the shaded tables out the front were occupied. We had a great view of the car park and the sand dunes.

As it was a lazy lunch we decided to choose from the "Share" portion of the menu.

Olives, 1/2 Baguette, Jamon & torn Mozzarella, Duck Rillettes and finally a side of chips.

The olives were up with the best we have had at a Restaurant, fresh and flavourful. The baguette, fresh and crisp of crust with unsalted French butter and dip of oil and balsamic.

The Jamon and mozzarella was the average part of the selection. Jamon was fine and as expected, the cheese was a little dry and not as creamy as others we have had. That said it was not bad, just expectations not met.

The Rillettes however, took us back to many meals enjoyed throughout France. Finely flavoured, moist and plenty of pieces of duck as opposed to mousse filling.

The chips were chips, with a kitchen made garlic aioli as opposed to a spoon of sour cream/creme fraiche.

Washed down with Lamonts wine made for a relaxing 2 hours.

Service was fast efficient and friendly. Maybe because it was the first weekday after the school holidays and the Leeuwin concert was still 5 days away.

We also tasted the wines after our meal and visited the deli.

Very nice place with good food. Service was a little slow at times. The area is nice and it's close to Smith's Beach but it's a pity that you can't get a view of the beach while sitting in the restaurant. All you can see is holiday apartments.

We had been disappointed to learn that Lamont's had moved to a new location; it has long been a favorite post-Leeuwin Concert lunch venue. However, we discovered that the new Smith's Beach location is not that far from Gunyulgup and well worth the visit. The contemporary styling of the restaurant sits well with the beach landscape and affords a great outlook from the balcony on entry. The meals that five of us selected were superb - ranging from the fish of the day to a medium-rare steak to marron, with a share plate of tempura whitebait to begin. The crusty, warm and extremely fresh half baguettes were a big hit with our group and several repeat orders were made. However, the winning order of the day was definitely the individual pavlova, which looked amazing and tasted wonderful. One of our party ordered it for herself, and was warned that it might be better to share; undeterred she attacked this work of art with gusto - and only shared a spoonful with her four friends so that we could understand the depth of her pleasure with this dessert. We thoroughly enjoyed our choice of Lamont's wines with our meal and all up felt the drive from our accommodation near Busselton worth every moment. It was a grand and fitting way to re-live the previous night's fantastic Carole King concert at Leeuwin. Well done Kate Lamont with yet another superb dining experience in this great South-West corner of Western Australia.

Great culinary venture by well known restaurateur Kate Lamont who's added variety and flavour to the menu.
You can now have very interesting breakfast choices here as well.
Very busy in the height of summer in a casual, laid back atmosphere, quieter and quicker service in winter.
