I have always seen Kate Lamont as one of the "institutions" of dining in Perth.
Over the years, have made many pilgimages to the Swan Valley for the amazing marron with beure blanc sauce and East Perth with its amazing setting by the water.
Her food has always been modern, adventurous and yet comforting at the same time.
So it was with pleasure that I saw the sign saying "Lamonts" as we pulled into the Smiths Beach Resort car park.
Unfortunately the car park was the best view we got there - nothing by comparison to the winery in the Swan or the water at East Perth.
The food was ok but if I didn't know Kate Lamont's involvement, I would have just said "good but not special" and it was handy not having to drive around aimlessly for a meal.
The restaurant's design missed the mark though - East Perth was quite a stunning modern design - the different materials and textures here didn't come together and the room lost any emotive feeling.
It was a plus though having their delicatessan there with a few value options and the breakfast is good quality.
