“A heaven of a pitstop if you're traveling between Margaret river and Albany”
Reviewed June 12, 2014 via mobile

We were traveling from Margaret River to Albany, and it would have been a tiring 5-hour drive had we not stopped here. We were glad that we did! It was a really good break from the real world, and we got down to some real kickass cooking on the gas barbecue. We got to see some wild kangaroos hopping around too!

The rooms were in pristine condition, and we loved the space we had! The views from the windows were spectacular, as we were able to see the inlet from there.

There was a rare power failure in the region on the morning of our departure, and the owners were so nice to send us each a bottle of water in case we didn't have any drinkable water due to the inability to boil water!

I'd highly recommend this place to travelers along the south coast highway. It's a fantastic pit stop to recharge your batteries in the middle of the monstrous journey between Margaret river and Albany.

Gracious, hospitable hosts; a lovely clean and well maintained chalet established in a superb setting overlooking the Frankland River. Offering lots of opportunity to get away and walk through the bush to the river. Lots of lovely birds and the roos & wallabies abound in the evening and early morning. Just right!

Stayed at the Riverside Retreat for 1 night as we were driving through from Albany to Margaret River and needed a night stop.

The houses/chalets are a bit a drive in (so please get there earlier when there's still light to be familiarized with the place) but it was such a peaceful and serene plot of land! We were greeted Don and their family dog, Lara (hope I remembered her name correctly) who was a ball of energy!

The chalet we stayed in was spotless, and there is definitely more than enough space for a family, though there was only 2 of us. All the necessities for cooking is provided, so if you decide to do some cooking of your own, you don't have to worry. The kangaroos, also come out at their place in the late afternoon/early evening and we were very lucky to have spotted them on our drive out to get some groceries(only about 10mins away), and again when we were back in the property.
We also managed to take a walk down to the river, where they had a little pier and the view was stunning!

Thank you, Don and Margo for the hospitality, we were glad to have met the both of you!

Between the forest giants and the clear waters of the franklin river lies a delightful wilderness retreat that will soon have you relaxed and in touch with nature. Chalets are well managed, spotlessly clean and well presented. I would recommend a BBQ on the patio with a local bottle of wine at sunset as you watch the kangaroos graze on the lawns. The tree top walk and the giant tingle tree are just down the road. Allow time for an entertaining WOW cruise, a little fishing and a Kayak adventure.
You will not find wifi, big screen TV’s or spa tubs but you will find serenity....enjoy !

We loved every minute at this beautiful place the owners are great and the chalets are perfect if you want to enjoy the wonderful country around Walpole and Nornalup & Valley of the Giants. The Eco boat trip was a highlight as well as the local Kangaroos each evening, Most of us came from the U.K so to get away from the noise of traffic and replace it with the sound of the surf breaking over the hill was wonderful we also enjoyed the clear night sky with no light pollution a first for many of us.

We only stayed for a night but wished we could stay longer. The unit is very cozy and clean, perfect place to relax and recharge yourself. This place is definitely worth the 10 mins drive from Walpole. It would be a ideal place to base and explore the surrounding nature attractions. We even saw kangaroos on the property. There's a path leading down to the river which was calm and peaceful. We took some wonderful pictures.

Margo was very prompt with answering my queries during booking. Don was so helpful with roads recommendation to our next destination.

The only thing to note is that the property is very dark at night. We did have some trouble locating our unit when we were back from dinner at Walpole town. However, the dark environment is perfect for stars glazing. It's a pity it was raining during our stay.

Thanks Don and Margot for a perfect vacation! The chalet was spacious, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The fishing along the Franklin River was awesome. And the Bibbulman hiking trails, in the giant Karri and Tingle tree forests, close by. We came here from Malaysia to get away from Chinese New Years fireworks every night, all night for 14 nights, so we were very happy with the peace and quiet. We enjoyed seeing so many stars.

Room Tip: all the chalets are excellent, well spaced and have a good view.
