“A great little museum”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

Definitely worth getting back into Thomson Bay in time to visit this little museum before getting on the late afternoon ferry. The museum is only open till 3.30 so try to allow at least 45 minutes / 1 hour to have a good look through. Don't forget to pick up a leaflet to do the self guided tour of the old buildings around the settlement.

The volunteers are always helpful. The old photos of the island are so interesting along with the info about the shipwrecks and the time as a prison.

Thank you for your review following your recent visit to Rottnest Island. The museum is a great way to end a day trip as the Island has a rich cultural history.

We're glad you got a chance to do the self-guided tour of the colonial buildings in the Settlement too. Vincent Way boasts the oldest continuously inhabited, intact streetscape in Australia, with early colonial cottages dating from the 1840s!

I will also be sure to pass your compliments onto the Rottnest Island Voluntary Guides. We hope to see you on the Island again soon!

“Must-do on Rottnest”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

For a simple gold coin donation, this place can really enhance your experience on Rottnest. It's not enormous, but filled with interesting facts and history about the island that really helps you to understand the place, the environment and the history. Well worth the 20 mins-1 hour you could choose to spend here, and the staff are really good at recommending places and activities that suit you. Excellent!

“Packed with good information.”
Reviewed December 20, 2013

A great small but well laid out museum showing much of the history of Rotness Island. From how the prisoners were treated, where the people came from to build the defenses. There is also a lot about the flora and fauna too.

“It was a useful information”
Reviewed December 13, 2013 via mobile

It is a worthwhile to spend time in the museum to understand why Rottnest island is important for Australians. It has some artifacts which were good and bad about the civilizations in this island and Australians in the past. I hope it will be repeat the same again in the future.
