“If you don't have kids get on your bike and head out”
Reviewed February 19, 2014

The Basin is a very nice beach for families with kids or people who can't get on their bike and head out of the immediate area of the settlement.

But if you are fit and active and without kids then don't spend your time here. get on your bike to some of the great, less busy, beaches that Rottnest has to offer.

Basin is pretty and has protected waters, but is way busier than most Rottnest beaches.

Thanks for your review following your recent visit to Rottnest Island. The Basin is great for families and famous for snorkelling, however you are correct - there are actually 63 beautiful beaches and bays around the Island, so getting out and about is a great suggestion for those with the opportunity to. For some breath-taking beaches that are also great for snorkelling, visitors should head to Parker Point, Little Salmon Bay, Parakeet Bay and Little Armstrong Bay. We hope to see you on the Island again soon.

Beautiful crystal waters where we snorkelled all day. Great for families and adults alike. Some shade. Showers available with toilets and changing facilities.

“Amazing peace of nature”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

Definitely go for some snorkeling here. The reef starts from the beach and holds many nice fish. We did expect to see more colours and were a bit disappointed but still this is a place you should go to. Take the Rottnest ferry from Perth (near Bell Tower) including bikes and snorkeling gear and I'm sure (if the weather is nice) you'll spend a day on an unforgettable place discovering the amazing nature and wildlife on this island.

Reviewed July 21, 2013

Love this place - obviously so do so many other people - it is crowded everyday in summer.
Sitting in the sun - wonderful
Sitting in the shade - perfect
Swimming - Beautiful
Snorkeling - easy & safe here
Slip, slop & slap and enjoy a full day at this beach

“Gorgeous even in Winter”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This protected little bay is lovely - not a huge area to spread out in as the beach is often covered at high tide. Usually well protected from the weather and a good place to paddle for the little ones. If you have a snorkel take it with you as there are always things to look at along the reef surrounding the tidal that you swim in.
