“don,t bother”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

Mount Barker is a pretty country town situated 30mins from Albany the area has many beautiful places and we both thought the Jolly frog B&B would be a good place to base ourselves so we could explore the area. We booked to stay for 3 nites total price of $315 when we arrived we were greeted by our hosts Bev & Colin Wardle they seem pleasant we had a queen size room in the house which itself is not very large and a little run down looking, the room was on the small side and was very old fashioned but clean it had a small TV with a dvd player and dvd,s.
there was a small kitchen area with a sitting area again clean but very cluttered. We were woken bright and early buy the owner rooster and large parrot collection so no lying in here, the gardens are nice but again with all the large aviary's around the house it makes the place look very cluttered the smell and noise is off putting. The location is very convenient to the town and we travel to Albany and Denmark which are both beautiful only wished we had stayed there.

This B&B has a 2-bedroom self-contained suite with a separate entrance. The first bedroom has a queen bed, the second bedroom has two single beds. Each room has a small TV with a DVD player. There are stacks of DVDs available in the suite, including many kids' titles. There's a small but complete kitchen, a bathroom with a toilet, then another bathroom that has the vanity, tub and shower. Everything is clean, modern and comfortable. We paid $95/night, and I thought this was a really good deal.

Breakfast ingredients were supplied by the owners, including a big tray of various homemade jams. Other nice touches included a good selection of shampoos and conditioners, a night light in the kitchen, flashlights by the beds, and umbrellas by the door.

The Jolly Frog is in the town of Mt Barker, so it's a short drive to the business district of Mt Barker. The house is set on a large lot with beautiful gardens, ponds, neat old farm equipment, a couple tiny horses, an aviary, and a sweet resident dog. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, yet we still had plenty of privacy.

We had dinner both nights at the Plantagenet Hotel in town, which seemed to be the only option for dinner. The atmosphere is kind of pub-like, but the service was good and we liked the food. Warning: portions are huge. The second night we split a meal, and found it to be plenty.

The Stirling Range NP is close by, as is Porungurup. Mt Barker is a good home-base for exploring those parks.
