“Enjoyable”
Reviewed January 9, 2013 via mobile

If you are a small eater, the a very big welcome to your 1st three course meal. The meals are very nice and not over sized.
Service was great, attentive, friendly and helpful.
Pity the soft drinks are way over priced.
Coffee was a perfect end to the evening.
I will visit again.

“The best Tapas in Perth”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

Having been to John Mead's "Cream" restaurant in East Perth, the option to travel to the Hills was an easy one. He has managed to transfer the technical brilliance of the fare at "Cream" to the role of Tapas, which proved to be the best my wife and I have tasted in Perth.

Forget the hit and miss affairs you find in Fremantle, it is obvious that the talent this guy has is transferred to every mouth-watering portion that comes out of the kitchen. The four in our party could not fault the service, food and laid back ambience.

John and Maria Mead have pulled it off. Where the hell they found wait staff who love their job must be a closely guarded secret. Now the only difficulty remaining is working our way from the menu from top to bottom; a task that will be approached with delight! This will become a regular for us and with weekend brunch at The Cavern on the horizon, this will be an even bigger drawer card in the future.

“Gorgeous Tapas in Kalamunda”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

We decided to dine at The Cavern at the last minute this evening and so we didn't have a booking. Luckily we were after an early night so it was about 6.30pm when we arrived - any later and we may have struggled to get a table.

The service was friendly and immediately welcoming and the menu whet our appetites at first glance. There is a very good range of Tapas style dishes covering almost every taste. We selected the Pork puffs with Chilli Jam, lamb kebabs with mint yoghurt, smokey sticky pork ribs with coleslaw, duck spring rolls and olives, chorizo and Persian feta. Everything was delicious - perfectly spiced and beautifully prepared. The 5 dishes we chose gave us the perfect amount of food given that we were both ravenous when we walked in.

We will be back to try the rest of the menu... Soon!! :)

“The Cavern”
Reviewed November 6, 2012

This Tapas restaurant in Kalamunda, a township in the Darling range of hills to the east of Perth Western Australia approx 19 km from Prth CBD It recently opened after major renovations by new owners and a newstyle . Seating is available for about 60 with indoor and covered outdoor tables . The menu and service levels are interesting with a value for money menu and the atmosphere is true to name. Service was quick and good. Staff looked after us well. The wine and beer list covered several glass and bottle choices and large Steins of beer are also available. An interesting feature of the Cavern is the long bar which is the hub of the restaurant where singles or a couple can enjoy an excellent drink or a selection of Tapas to their taste.
Much thought has been given to make this restaurant ,a rising star in Kalamunda. It offers good food, good wine and beer, and an excellent choice of Tapas. The Cavern is a fine name for for a happy environment ..$35 per head was our cost which included a glass of wine for each of us. Pre booking is essential. doors open 4.30pm nightly excluding Sundays It is already very busy. This is a very interesting place and people will come from afar to enjoy this happy experience in Kalamunda in the hills19km from Perth CBD. Car parking is free on the kerbside or in the carpark adjacent to the restaurant in Mead Street.

“We'll be back...”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

Went to the Cavern after reading several conflicting reports- who do you believe? Only way to really know is to find out for yourself! Pleasantly surprised! Had a good selection of meals & wine - 4 of spent around $40/head food & wine - left feeling full & satisfied - and it was busy too.
