Sal Salis is very hard to review, because it truely is unique. Nestled in a National Park, fronting an amazing azure blue sea with Ningaloo reef just metres offshore, you are amazed by the environment, the food served in the resort and the mesmerising sunsets over the sea. The staff are all enthusiastic and helpful, but it really was a surprise that all the guests were wonderful to spend time with.
I didn't find out how the resort "works" before arriving. You stay in well appointed tents, that are generous in size and come with an ensuite at the back, which makes he semi outdoors shower nice when the weather is warm, but cold otherwise. The water restrictions of 20 litres per day for showering are quite restrictive but when you make the transformation from showering is not for warming up or relaxing, but just for cleaning, it is not so bad.
The staff take you on activities in mornings and afternoons, and the ones we did were very enjoyable and informative.
We went on their whale shark tour with Live Ningaloo, and I'd recommend them. Amongst other things they limit numbers to 10, the max that can swim with the whale sharks. Other companies have 20, which means you only go on half the swims.
The resort sends you driving instructions, which you do need to read, as there are NO signs to the resort and google maps is not accurate.
Note also that there is no wifi, no phone signal, no 240volt electricity in the tents.
I couldn't fault the place, but whether it is "worth" the cost is very hard to answer. It certainly is a unique experience, and one that I was very happy that we went on.
If in doubt, just go.

Dear Les, thank you for your review and we are really pleased that in the end you felt it was all worth while ... we are rather tucked away as you discovered, but we do love our pristine habitat and we do feel very privileged to be located in the heart of a World Heritage listed National Park. We agree with you too, Live Ningaloo is a super experience, Murray and his team are just about unbeatable. Thank you for giving us a shot! Cheerio, Amanda

Wow! What and experience, what a journey, what an amazing way to spend a special birthday. Nothing was left undone, nothing left to chance. Paul and Candice added an amazing level of personal service that leaves you almost as breathless as the location. Even a rather major panic/anxiety attack from my very unseasoned traveling companion was handled, calmly, effectively and discreetly.

The meals from breakfast to dinner were amazing & mouth-watering. The wine was always Aussie, delicious and perfectly served, and matched to the meal; just divine. I note that some suggestions have been made about having music in the evening, but I totally enjoyed the wonderful bush and beach sounds, and the amazing peaceful silence of the setting

The accommodation was generous, very, very comfortable, and without fault, our tent was right near the shared deck and it had the most wonderful view, and its own hammock, while still feeling that wide open space

The whale shark experience with Live Ningaloo was breathtaking, informative, and relaxed. It lived up to the Sal Salis level of service and style. A beautiful day, on a beautiful boat, so see some of the worlds most beautiful creatures. Guided by people who understand and have passion for Whale Sharks and their preservation

My inexperienced, panicky fellow camper now describes our time there as the most peaceful and relaxing, I call it a trip of a lifetime that I hope to repeat again very soon.

An absolutely stunning experience from the first moment to the last. Our greeting set the tone - personal, warm, welcoming and something which can be all too rare in hospitality: a genuine feeling of interest in us as travellers and a totally genuine spirit of "we are delighted to have you stay with us". Our greeting was a role model in how to make guests feel instantly welcome as individuals rather than just "another set of guests". The location itself is simply out of this world and like no-where else we have ever stayed - in such an unbelievably beautiful place it is to the credit of everyone at Sal Salis that the feeling of pristine natural beauty has been retained without it ever feeling manufactured or unnatural. You feel totally connected to the ocean just metres away and to the natural land environment in the very respectful blending of the luxury tents in the sand dunes. That beauty would mean nothing however, if the experience itself detracted from this - and this is where every single one of the staff came into their own. Nothing was too much trouble - even instant fixing of water issues (as a result of the natural wildlife's night-time activities!) with no delay or waiting around. The food at all times of the day was also out of this world and wholehearted thanks and credit to the chef and his team for putting on such an array of delicious food (in particular dinner), especially with the seamless and totally hassle-free accommodation of gluten / dairy dietary requirements. Breakfast on the beach, and sundowners on the beach were all first class and all done with smiles and genuine connection and interest in us as people from all the staff. Personal touches such as the birthday drinks were also delivered with unique feeling and heart. The whale shark day was breathtaking - not simply because of the wonder of the experience which we had swimming with the whale sharks, but (perhaps even more so) because of the personalised feeling of the whale shark boat and Murray's enthusiasm, and the passion and personal engagement with all of us on the boat from Tash, Seb and in particular Nat. Nat's own personal passion and knowledge for all things marine can't help but rub off and she made the experience even more amazing and enjoyable. A totally brilliant day out with a crew who really cared and who made what would already be a memorable experience even more unforgettable. I don't have the words to quite convey how amazing our stay at Sal Salis was, from the facilities, to the setting, to the stunning surrounds and scenery, but most of all to all the Sal Salis team - all of whom were ambassadors for the company and the brand and who would make us want to go back without any hesitation whatsoever. Having stayed in many hotels and many which consider themselves or claim to be so-called first class or premium standard, it can truly be said that Sal Salis utterly delivers on this in every way and in fact exceeded what was expected. Thank you so much for such an amazing stay which was the highlight of our 2 weeks driving up the West Coast. Neil & Rachel

Dear Neil and Rachel, WOW you make my heart sing AND I am sure the team at camp will be thrilled to receive this lovely note from you guys. I was on the phone to Amy today and told her I was printing it off to send out to the camp. I mentioned the water issues and said your name Neil ... and she cut in with 'Oh and Rachel, they were lovely guests!' She immediately remembered you. The last couple of days have been a bit of a battle with rain, which is so rare at Ningaloo (though lets face it most of Australia has been having a battle with rain in the last few days!). Anyway your note will put a smile on their faces and remind them how wonderful our little corner of Australia really is and why we all love what we do. Thanks so much for your review, we really do appreciate you taking the time to share your Sal Salis story. Amanda

We were fortunate to spend some time at this gorgeous location. The staff were superb - very attentive with friendly dispositions. Special mention to Renee who really went out of his way to look after us throughout our time there. The highlight of our time was a kayak out to the blue lagoon with him. Simply sensational.

The tents are luxurious and in the most pristine location. Lying in the hammock on the front deck was just heaven. Would have been great to have a little music at night when sitting on the main deck watching the sunset.

My only very minor complaint is that drink selection was quite limited and often not cold. But certainly not enough of an issue to impact our stay.

We will definitely return!

Dear Anna L
We are super pleased that you enjoyed your stay. The music idea is one that has not come up before and so the team at camp are going to do a 'mini-survey' and ask a few guests what they think on that score. Your commends on the drink selection are also noted so Candice & Brendan (aka Tazzie) are going to give this some attention too. As always thank you for taking the time to review our camp and thank you so much for visiting!! Cheers, Amanda
