Yardie Homestead Caravan Park
Reviewed July 2, 2012

We just spent some time around Cape Range National Park near Exmouth, WA. We really wanted to camp in the park but their screwy campsite system makes it virtually impossible to get a site during peak season. not to worry, the Yardie Homestead is right nearby and wonderful.

We camp in a small tent and don't enjoy the typical tent sites in Australia caravan parks where you are forced to camp on top of each other with zero space and privacy. At Yardie, we were given a large, treed site in the "overflow" area. It was wonderful. All that and warm showers, laundry and a pool. They also make any bookings you want for tours and Yardie is minutes from the boat ramp where the glass bottom boat tours and whale shark trips depart. Most tour companies will pick you up on the way and you will only spend 10 minutes in the car rather than the 30-40 minutes from Exmouth.

We stayed here for just 2 nights in August 2011 with a camper van. The whole of the area from Exmouth to Yardie Creek gets booked up very quickly during August. This was the only campsite with any space left. I would recommend visiting the Exmouth Visitor Centre as they are very helpful and can tell you where there's space. The Homestead has an overflow area which is where we stayed - no power just a space at the back of the site. There is a pool which was refreshing and a restaurant which we didn't try but looked ok. There are a couple of shower blocks some better than others. However, the reason to visit this place is the Cape Range National Park and specifically Torquise Bay. In my opinion one of the BEST BEACHES in the world. I don't confess to having visited thousands of beaches but have been to some nice beaches. The drift snorkelling is awesome!

Have just stayed at the Yardie Creek Homestead Caravan Park for a week on a powered site. There were seven of us in four tents and we fit on the site easily. The cost was about $60 per night and was about $15 cheaper than the Lighthouse caravan Park.

As mentioned in an earlier review it is very dusty and windy but this is not really the fault of the park! You are in the desert basically.
The toilets and showers were clean and well maintained. Washing machines were available to use for $3 a wash.
Bins were a bit smelly but they were emptied regularly and fishermen were strongly encouraged to put fish waste in only a few bins.
There was a pool and a restaurant neither of which we used but nice to have the option. As the power supply was all generator based you could not use things like electric kettles that pull alot of power but as that isnt a usual camping item that was no problem. The camp kitchen was great - two big barbeques, two gas burners, tables and two fridges that you were able to use. This was also great for a chat with other campers as you prepared your dinner.
The main reasons for this being our choice of accomodation was that it is located right near the National Park entry (36 kms from exmouth town), we werent set up for independant camping in the Park and we wanted the luxury of a shower at the end of a full days activities at the beach.
All in all this park is completely adequate -dated but clean-not special but not terrible.
I would stay again.

We stayed here for the second time in 2 years in February 2012 and loved it even more than the first time. It's such a beautiful place. We live in Sweden most of the year but spend the summers in Perth visiting family. We always travel north from Perth during low season when most people find it to hot and this time we pretty much had the place to our self. Lovely. Lots of wildlife and the stargazing at night is amazing. The national park is spectacular and the fishing is great. A special thank you to the managers Marie and Les who were super friendly and helpful. We hope to be back soon!

We have just returned from two weeks up north. We stayed at Yardie for 10 nights. We found Yardie to be an ideal place to stay with our camper trailer. We had a great time seeing the atttractions of the area and when it was time to chill at Yardie we enjoyed the friendly chats and a laugh with the New Managers, Les and Maree. They made our stay a great experience. They were warm and personable, the right mix for being great managers at Yardie. We will be going back for sure and hope to see them there! Keep up the excellent work Les and Maree. Trevor and Pauline of Perth

I've just returned from a 2 week stay at Yardie Homestead. I camped in a tent at a powered site and in the second week, my wife flew to Exmouth to join me.My campsite had a sandy base and seemed larger than I've seen elsewhere. This was our first camping trip - despite being retirees.

Our stay was fantastic. The proximity to the national park with its fantastic bays and beaches, the abundant wildlife and snorkeling in Turquoise Bay was sublime.

Our dealings with the staff at Yardie were excellent. There was a change of management during our stay and the new managers (Les and Maree) are lovely people, helpful and excellent hosts.

We had a most relaxing stay in a wonderful part of the world.

Thanks

Peter & Lesley
