We spent three nights at the Ningaloo Caravan & Holiday Resort in Exmouth in one of their self-contained studio chalets.

Our unit was much smaller than expected and a real squish for two adults, one suitcase, snorkel gear and food. The bed was small (felt like a double) and uncomfortable. The tiny table with two chairs was awkwardly positioned underneath a small overhead TV, making it virtually impossible to watch television while sitting at the table. The TV could also only be viewed from one side of the bed, as the bathroom wall blocked the view from the other side. It was weird.

We just couldn't get comfortable here. There just wasn't enough space. We'd have to move our belongings from the table to the bed when we wanted to eat, then back to the table when we were ready for bed.

Our unit did have a nice balcony overlooking the grounds and the chalets across from it. We spent quite a bit of time out there because it was more comfortable than indoors.

The caravan park itself is fine, but I'd suggest that anyone needing space go for a larger unit. We paid $160 per night for our room, which seemed high for what we got. We would have really appreciated some hand towels, but none were provided.

What was provided was a booklet full of rules and a list of extra charges if guests didn't remove trash from their units or wash dishes upon departure. We stay in self-catering accommodation all the time, we know how it works. But giving paying "guests" such a long list of demands was off-putting and seemed a bit harsh. Come on, would it kill them to wash a glass after charging $160 a night? There was also four pages on cyclone evacuation procedures. Fortunately, we didn't need to test them!

There is a good Italian restaurant on site. The first night we attempted to eat there, they were packed and understaffed - only two waitstaff taking orders, seating patrons, handling take out orders and ringing up food bills for a busy restaurant on a Saturday night. We checked in at the counter, were seated and then waited 30 minutes, but we were never waited on, so we left. We returned a few nights later and had a good meal, although I'd hardly call the service friendly. Good value though, huge servings...we had to take most of it with us for lunch the next day.

Note: Three Island Marine Charters is located in the same complex. We booked through them for a whale shark dive tour and got a 20% discount since we were staying at the Ningaloo Caravan & Holiday Resort. Three Island Marine was a class operation and I highly recommend them.

We stayed in the Chalets at Ningaloo Caravan & Holiday Resort. Accommodation is very expensive in Exmouth and the Chalets at $160 per night are about as cheap as you can get to be based centrally and still have your own private amenities.
The Chalet was a studio - i.e. very compact - you walk into the kitchen area with the bed on your right and a small bathroom off the main room. While I was a little suprised at the size we weren't here to spend our time in our hotel room. The kitchen facilities in the room cover all bases for self-catering and the air conditioning and fan was more than adequate to keep the room cool. The Chalet's were spotlessly clean and the Park staff were incredibly helpful. They were also very quick to remedy any problems. Due to high winds a branch was banging on our roof and they promptly chopped it down.
The location is 5 mins walk to the 'mall' where there are 2 IGAs, bakery, cafe's and a couple of restaurants. It is also almost opposite Ningaloo Whaleshark 'n' Dive which was the company we used for all of our excursions (I highly recommend).
There is another campground over the road that is called Aspen. It didn't look quite as well maintained but there were a number of people on our dive trip staying there who were all happy with their chalets too.
Take care if you book at Novotel resort as it is too far to walk into town - you will need a hirecar for your stay. Hire cars are very expensive due to the fact that you only get a 100km free allowance - and then 25c per km. To get to the National Park (for fantastic snorkelling at the Oyster Stacks and Turquoise Bay) it will be about a 120km round-trip. Coral Bay is 200km south of Exmouth.

We stayed at the Ningaloo caravan park. It is situated within walking distance of all the amenities in Exmouth and is across the road from the visitors centre which is very handy. It has a nice pool area and BBQ's and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The studio chalet we stayed in was basic but it was very clean and had everything we needed particularly hot water. I would recommend this as a good place to stay if you want somewhere at the cheaper end of the market.
