Owner description: No holiday to the South West of WA would be complete without taking the time to view and photograph the abundant marine and ocean life that thrives along this magnificent coastline. Naturaliste Charters has been operating professional whale watching tours out of Augusta and Dunsborough for more than 20 years. Cape Naturaliste’s unique location means we are able to offer a six-month whale-watching season from Mid May to Mid December. Our tours provide visitors with the opportunity to view Humpback Whales, Southern Right Whales, and the rare Blue and Minke Whales on both their northern and southern migrations. As you watch these majestic creatures breach and frolic, we guarantee you’ll be mesmerised by their agility. We also carry the latest hydroponic equipment so you can listen to their haunting, yet beautiful sounds. Our whale watching vessel, the ‘Cetacean Explorer’ is fully equipped with the latest navigational and safety equipment, and provides outstanding viewing opportunities for all those on-board. Our crew are trained in marine science and provide expert commentary, while guests enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, milo, green tea and biscuits. Other marine life you might encounter during your whale watching tour include: ◾New Zealand Fur Seals ◾Bottlenose & Common Dolphins ◾Sea Birds

We took the trip towards the end of November, near the end of the whale watching season, but it was great. We saw two lots of humpback whales, a mother and calf, followed by another adult and two calves. The pilot and commentator was informative and enthusiastic about whales and marine conservation. We were lucky that the sea was lovely and calm, so the whole experience was very enjoyable.

Great day out for the family. Kids loved it! Went out on the morning of 6 December 2013. Very fortunate to see humpback whales late in the season. Highly recommended!

My wife and I booked a tour with this company. I confirmed by telephone two days prior to the tour date. On the day of the tour no one from the company showed up. When I called, the woman with whom I spoke said that the tour had been canceled because they were having "mechanical problems" with the boat and that they had emailed everyone to say the tour was cancelled. When I finally checked my email -- I did not have access for a couple of days, as we were on holiday!-- the reason they gave was that there was bad weather. Yet the day we were scheduled to go out was a beautiful day -- calm seas and sunny. I think that the real reason they did not go out was because they did not have enough clients. To compound matters, they contacted us so late that had we even had access to our email we would not have been able to book with another company. When visiting other places in the Margaret River region someone else told us they had had a similar experience with this company. My advice? Choose someone else!

Having spent an hour at Cape Naturaliste whale lookout in the morning watching whales in the distance we decided to go straight to Dunsborough Visitor Centre and see what trips were available that afternoon. The Naturaliste Charter was leaving in about an hour on a large boat (one of our group preferred this) for a 2-3 hour trip. The trip was excellent. The skipper and crew member were friendly and informative. We saw 3 groups of humpbacks and the skipper was very thorough in his search heading further out towards the deeper waters off the Cape. Unfortunately we never saw a blue whale which they did on the morning trip. Sea was relatively calm until we got off the Cape when it became very choppy. A breathtaking high speed trip back to back to the beach after the last group was seen to the calm of the clear waters. Highly recomended.

I was very fortunate to jump aboard Naturaliste Charters twice this year. The first being a morning tour, and we snagged a beautiful sunny spring day. The crew and skipper were very humorous which made us feel at ease on the boat, but at the same time professional and informative. This day we were fortunate enough to see dolphins, my favourite, humpback whales and well as an almighty Blue Whale. The second tour was a twilight tour, which was amazing. On the trip out to where the whales were, we were enjoying a glass of wine, the complimentary platter and a few laughs when we saw a flying fish for the first time!! The deckhand Gav informed us that seeing these are quite common. It was pretty exciting!! We also saw the beautiful Humpback Whales on this tour, and enjoyed the trip back to the moorings with the sun setting behind us. Great job guys, highly recommended!!
