I stayed for one night in a twin room on the top floor. The staff member that checked me in was friendly and warm, and offered suggestions for my stay in Castlemaine. The hotel itself is an interesting old building, and it feels like stepping back in time. I loved it. The room was a good size, and the beds were very very comfortable. The added bonus was the lovely view out the window over the rolling hills and country side. The bathroom is a bit cosy, but clean and functional with nice soft towels. I was told there was a balcony and a garden to sit in, but I did not stay long enough to enjoy them. Maybe next time, as I would certainly stay again.

We got a small room which was near the front reception. Everything was clean & working well.
Only issue would be being so close to reception & the noise of other guests checking out & staff using the vacuum cleaner before check out time, while other guests were still in their beds sleeping, or trying to.
Probably a bit “rustic” for a long stay, depending on your tastes, but served its purpose well for us for a quick stop.
The girl at reception was very friendly & welcoming on our arrival & they had complementary Kookas bikkies in the room with the tea & coffee!

This Lodge was perfect for us especially being downstairs, lovely big room, ensuite, two desks, usual TV, etc. Quaint, clean and old fashion if you are looking for this type of accom. Yes being heritage tagged it makes it difficult to sometimes update, so if you can get past these little frustrations the stay is worthwhile. We ate at local hotels and coffee shops. This lodge is full of History and charm built in 1886. With in close proximity, as long as you have a car is Victorian Goldfields Railway (Steam Railway) Be whisked away into the unforgettable experiences of yesteryear. In Maldon 2.7K from township is Carman's Tunnel
Gold Mines and the beautiful Art & Historical Museum open at various hours in Lyttleton Street it was founded in 1913. The Tourist News is also available to show you so many other amazing places to visit. Great for the traveller who has no time restrictions and can visit what interests them.

The welcome on arrival and ongoing engagement with guests is really nice, making a relaxed stay.

This property could be one of the best in Castlemaine, as the large mansion is romantic and interesting...but badly in need of renovation. A fair bit of plumbing noise too in the ground floor rooms from above. No breakfast provided, but plenty of options in the town, an easy walk down the hill.
