We have just spent a lovely few days at this hotel. The setting is wonderful - a real getaway from it all experience. The entertainment was provided by It's Murder, a first class murder mystery company, who always deliver a great weekend everytime no matter where the setting. Hotel is quiet and relaxing with no T.V or phones in rooms so this helps to chillax you very quickly. Lovely staff with good manners and always a smile. Food excellent and service was first class. Lovely walks and beaches on Herm - would recommend both Hotel and Murder Mystery weekend. Easy connections from airport to Hotel. Thank you all for a lovely weekend. Hope to come back soon for another "whodunnit".

We visited for weekend at the end of September and it just happened to coincide with the wine tasting weekend. The hotel was full because of the wine tasting but I am sure it would have been full anyway. We used the hotel's travel inclusive deal this time, rather than booking everything separately ourselves, as it was a good deal. We travelled with friends and were in two rooms in Mermaid Cottage.
The standard of food is just as good as it has always been and is complemented by reasonably priced good wine.
The Island is as beautiful as ever and excellent for walking. We had good weather on the Friday and Saturday so were able to get out and about. Unfortunately, it rained on the Sunday morning but there were plenty of roaring fires to curl up in front of with a good book.
There have been many changes since our last visit and they are all for the better. The new look bedrooms are much lighter and welcoming. The tea chest with electric kettle and cups is a lovely idea rather than the old gas rings. You can see signs of improvement all over the island.
We spoke to the new manager, Sion (pronounced Sean) Dobson Jones and he was telling us there are plans to have new chairs in the dining room (they are much needed!) and a refub of the bathrooms which are also much needed.
We pointed out to him that the food is so good at all the places you can eat on the island but on the hotel deal you only get to eat at the hotel because the breakfast is so filling and you know you are going to have a wonderful 4 course meal in the evening. He said it could be arranged to take a portion of the money paid for the full board and use it at the other eating establishments instead. This is an excellent idea as there are items on the menu at the Ship that I would love to try.
Jonathan Watson and his team are doing a wonderful job bringing the island up to date but still retaining all the charm. I hope it isn't too long before we go back again.

Room Tip: Try and book early to get a room in the hotel with a balcony.

Herm is a truly magical small island and the White House Hotel is totally in keeping with the beautiful atmosphere. The hotel is a step back in time, but in a very positive way and the lack of pretentiousness is so refreshing. The interior gives one the feeling of being at an English country house party but with friendliness and without any stuffiness.
The majority of the rooms have lovely sea views (see below as to why I have seen all of them!).
In the past four years, both of our daughters have had their magical wedding receptions here. The support of the staff has been magnificent; I would single out the Manager, Sion Dobson Jones and the Head Receptionist, Linda. Sion was absolutely fantastic in helping us all get everything right for our great occasions; nothing was ever too much trouble.
In addition, we have had numerous short breaks, birthday celebrations, two naming ceremonies and resident wine tasting weekends.
Given the difficult logistics of being on a very small island, the Head Chef, Nigel, does a marvellous job of producing gourmet level food, particularly in the evenings.
In summary, this not a boringly standard five star slick city hotel, but instead a unique hotel on a very special island. In particular, the lack of televisions actually adds to the ambience of the hotel and makes the rooms much quieter! The one welcome concession, however, to the present, is the inclusion of wi-fi in the rooms.
We have no personal connection with the hotel, but we live in Guernsey and we just love going to the hotel and to Herm.

This is a great hotel in a wonderful location.

Herm itself, with no carsor bicycles is a wonderful place to visit and relax in. As small as it is It is a real holiday Island with great walks arround the headlands and wonderful sandy beaches.

The hotel (only one on the Island) is great for old and young, families or couples. it has a very relaxed atmosphere whilst the staff are welcoming and attentive. On top of that the food is excellent

This was our second visit and the hotel continues to impress. We will be going back next year.

Room Tip: Best Rooms are on the front of the Hotel with a balcony - Magic views

My fellow collegues and I, decided to dine in the hotel's conservatory restaurant.
If you are not hotel resident a meal costed about £27.50 which is avery good value for what you get- a four course set menu. There are about three or four choices for every course except the intermediate which generally is spou or sorbet.

This night I opted for smoked salmon and I went for the surf& turf which is on the market menu and for an additional £10 supplement. The salmon was alright and a good size starter to get the taste buds going. Surf&turf in The White House
is a very good valued meal even if it differs from the Surf and Turfs I have previously eaten. However, fillet steak cooked to perfection accompanied with pont neuf and of course- three tasteful tigerprawns is very good and it you definently won't go home hungry. I finished my meal with a baked alaska because I had never heard of it. It just made the whole memorable dining experience complete.

We spent a weekend on Herm for a friend's 50th birthday - can't recommend it highly enough! We stayed at The White House Hotel and found the staff to be extremely helpful and welcoming throughout the weekend. We'd arranged an afternoon tea on the lawn and the hotel provided us with our own personal waiter for the service which was brilliant!
The hotel is not a super chic boutique hotel, but has loads of charm and the rooms are perfectly adequate with really comfortable beds, spotlessly clean bathrooms (if a bit dated) with very nice shampoo, soap etc., coffee, tea and hot chocolate supplies, ironing board and iron, hair dryer etc.
Complimentary tea and coffee are also served in the hotel lounge. Sadly didn't have time to sample the swimming pool but the pool and surrounmding garden areas looked very inviting and were very clean.
Our party consisted of about 25 rather excitable guests and we dined in the hotel restaurant on the evening of the big 50 - the food was really good and the staff attentive but not overly so, all 25 enjoyed their food and throughly enjoyed the ambiance. A pre-dinner drink or two can be taken in the charming Ship Inn attached to the hotel.
All in all, we can't recommend the White House highly enough whether its for a romantic getaway with cocktails on the beach a few steps from the hotel, or a larger group or family party - who needs a reason, just go there and see for yourself!

We travelled with guests to the Ship Inn for evening dinner on a rather miserable August evening but were met by friendly and helpful staff, we all had a lovely meal before heading back later in the evening to Guernsey.
A great time was had by all and the staff were attentive but not too much and the food tasty and good value.
