Description: The New Inn is Tresco's friendly local pub that offers award winning food and beverages. Filled with guests and locals all year round, it is very much the heart of the island community. In addition to regular live music, it also hosts the island's beer and cider festivals. The New Inn also offers bed and breakfast accommodation. So, how best to describe the New Inn menu? Basically, it's the best of both land and sea. Quite literally in the case of the Tresco Surf & Turf, which first appeared on the menu to much acclaim in 2013. Well, let's face it, who wouldn't be seduced by the magical combination of succulent Bryher lobster and juicy chargrilled Tresco beefsteak? Other recent introductions to the menu include crab claws, potted shrimps and fish stew as well as other local delicacies such as the Cornish pork and Tresco partridge sausage roll. Along with cracking new dishes, there are still the old favourites such as beer-battered fish and chips, Cumberland sausage and mash, and the New Inn burger, produced from our own grass-fed beef herd. The New Inn has been awarded four yellow stars and a Gold Star Award from the AA for quality and service and an AA rosette for food excellence. It is one of only 12 Cornish pubs to be listed in the Michelin 'Eating Out in Pubs Guide'. In November 2013, it won Bronze in the 'Pub of The Year' category at the South West Tourism Awards.

We have always loved the New Inn since Robin took over as manager. The standard of food improved year on year and the welcome and service remained warm and friendly. This year the menu is more restricted but we have enjoyed the dishes we have chosen. Sunday lunch is excellent- delicious meat, generous portions and copious amounts of vegetables and the service is very professional as well as being warm and friendly.

We've been to the New Inn quite a few times over the past few years (most recently last week). Given that it's the only pub on Tresco it probably doesn't have to try too hard, but on the contrary we've always found it to be excellent.

It's at it's best in the warmer months with it's outdoor seating, occasional live music, and a wider menu with regularly changing specials, but even off-season it's cosy with good food albeit from a more standard pub menu. Service is uniformly good and friendly, and there's always well kept local beer. Everything on Tresco is expensive, so to criticise the cost is a bit pointless, but having said that, beer was £2.95 a pint last week which is cheaper than many pubs nearer home!

We will be back! By the way - the photograph currently heading up this review page is not The New Inn on Tresco......

Our fish pie costing £12 was more like a children's portion leaving us all feeling hungry. It only had a small piece of salmon and nothing else; no other kind of fish, or prawns or chopped egg. There was no lovely creamy sauce and the mash topping was thin and insipid. The children's menu offered pasta but the tomato sauce had been laced with chili and was too hot for a young palate. So our pub lunch out was surprisingly disappointing, as well as poor value for money.

The New Inn is back on form! Lovely food again, and atmosphere. Robin and his staff were on top form too and made us all very welcome. Lovely bonus that they were having a cull of the cellar, and most of the real Ales were £2 a pint. No Scilly prices this time!

Had a snack lunch. Excellent yarg sandwich on delicious bread. Chocolate ice cream was very good. Lovely setting. Friendly staff.
