“Magnificent and Unexpected Gardens!!!! Real Gem!!!”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Everything is more or less dead on Tresco in December (Except for The New Inn, of course, reviewed by me separately...).
Sam at Sylina's B&B (Also reviewed by me separately) suggested the boat ride to Tresco Island and the Abbey Gardens. We went for it.....
The boat ride took some eight minutes and we were literally left there on our own, as we watched the boat go back........We strolled to the gardens, which were basically closed (The shop, coffee house and box office), but for an Honesty Box, in which we were asked to put five pounds per person, which we did.
We had the whole magnificent garden to ourselves, the two gardeners and the exquisite Golden Pheasants that roam the Gardens.
Tresco Abbey Gardens are subtropical gardens, which is very surprising in this part of the world. This is enabled by a combination of the Gulf Stream and the special design of the park. We visited in December and hundreds of plants were in full bloom!!!
The gardens are beautifully landscaped and we spent a good three hours wandering along the well mapped park trails and paths.
The unbelievably coloured Golden Pheasants will come up to you and eat out of your hands. Remember to have something for them with you...!!!
The Valhalla Collection consists of majestic and colourful figureheads taken off vessels that sank around the Isles of Scilly over the years. Don't skip this fascinating exhibit while at the Gardens!!!!
Great Day!!! Magnificent Gardens!!! Real Gem!!!

“A bit of Paradise”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Went on a warm, quiet day so were able to wander around admiring the wonderful plants and garden design. Top quality tearoom and shop. Amazed at the Golden Pheasants wandering around - staggeringly beautiful. Yes, saw red squirrels who seem to be settling down well.

“Tropical Garden Paradise”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

Never tire of visiting these beautiful gardens set in stunnng surroundings wih superb views across to neighbouring islands. The varieties of trees, shrubs and plants from around the world (many from the southern hemisphere) can be rarely seen in any other mainland gardens. The added attraction of the Red Squirrels was an exciting bonus tis year and it is hoped the breed and prosper on Tresco. .
