Attraction details
Owner description: The Phoenix Craft Workshops comprise seven creative businesses under one roof. All the artists and craftspeople make their own, original work which they sell direct to the public. Any purchases are very well packed to take back to the mainland! Many of these artists also teach their skills to people visiting the studios, both adults and children. You can learn silk painting, stained glass, beaded jewellery or ceramic painting. Prices start from £8.50. It is advisable to phone beforehand if you would like to participate in a class, but it is sometimes possible to just drop in on the offchance. The workshops are only 10 minutes walk from the centre of town, or 15 from the quay. (You can use the Tripadvisor app to locate them.).

“Great fun, beautiful products !”

Had great fun here with Oriel yesterday learning to make a glass sun-catcher - other courses on offer too as well as a beautiful range of crafty products from some of the Islands top creators. Don't preclude going here on a lovely day but definitely something to bear in mind for those foggy or rainy days!

“Proper.”

A great place to see real artists and craftspeople at work, and also a great opportunity for younger ones to have fun and make a mess! Oriel is always welcoming and I really do recommend a visit. It's tucked away on the industrial estate, but is only a short walk from Hugh Town.

Yes, we are a little hard to find, but hopefully, we're worth the effort. We try to make everyone's visit a special experience, whether they're crafting, buying or just browsing.

Lovely to meet the makers and good quality items. Nice range of different things, and there are workshops for rainy days too. We particularly love the work of Imogen Bone.

“Where better to go.”

Every time we go to Scilly we make a point of vising Oriel and her companions. Our windows are full of original and unique glass and don't bother to go to the big city for designer lampshades - just talk to Oriel!

“Craftwork of the Isles”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2013

It's not exactly on the tourist trail. So you have to work a little to find it. It's not far away, but it is somewhat hidden on the industrial estate just before Porthmellon Beach. The crafts people working there are most welcoming - and it is well worth a little of your time.
