We loved the location of the hotel, on the main street leading to the harbour and the view from the room was superb - uninterrupted across Hugh Town harbour. The room was smart and the bed really comfortable but what made the whole experience was the restaurant. I am a fussy eater as I enjoy cooking myself but everything we ate was delicious, freshly cooked and beautifully presented. We booked half board with the room and got a sizeable discount on the cost of the meals but the food obviously spoke for itself as the restaurant was always busy - even so one of the best tables was always reserved for us.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a sea view but the superior double was worth the extra. There was no air conditioning but it was a historic building. It was in close proximity to the harbour so really convenient for boat trips.

We stayed 5 nights in mid May and had a most enjoyable time. We had a superior room overlooking the bay which was always a hive of activity as people worked on their boats and boats went to and fro to the other islands. The room was most comfortable and spacious as was the bathroom. The location is excellent as it is on the Main Street and people are often dropping in for coffee or a drink. It is no more than 5 minutes walk from the harbour if arriving by ferry

The hotel is managed by Neil and Neil. One was always around. Staff were most pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent - nicely presented and very tasty. Service could be slow at times which could be a problem if you wanted to attend one of the community events in the evening.

While there we were able to join other residents on tours of St Mary's and some of the other islands. Chas, one of the local guides, was very helpful in facilitating our inclusion in some of his walks.

We greatly enjoyed our stay on the island and would return to the Atlantic hotel.

Room Tip: One with a sea view but note there is an outdoor drinks area from which there can be quite a bit of noise if your bedroom window was open though this area is closed in late evening

My wife and I have just returned from our second holiday at The Atlantic. As before the experience was all we could hope for. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we arrived and, at least, had the impression that they remembered us from last year. The room that overlooks the harbour at St Mary's was comfortable and well equipped. The public areas have been thoughtfully redesigned now conveniently linking the residential part with the Atlantic's public bar.
The new chef provided excellent meals with good variety each day. All the staff are hardworking and friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. Particular mention has to be made of the two managers Neil and Neil; almost a double act! They both go out of their way to make each guest feel special and do all they can to make the holiday enjoyable. If only all hotels were like this.

I recently enjoyed a very memorable week here. The location couldn't have been better situated only a short walk to the harbour to board a boat for one of the other Islands. The restaurant which overlooks the sea is light, bright and exceptionally well run with a menu which maintained a consistently high standard throughout my stay there. All the staff were absolutely superb, very efficient, professional and very friendly, nothing was too much trouble for anyone of them, I especially want to give a special mention to Neil, Neil and Michelle who were outstanding. I would stay there again without a moments hesitation.

I stayed here for 5 nights as part of a small group. When the group arrived we were greeted with tea/coffee and allocated our rooms. The luggage had arrived from the airport ahead of us and was waiting in our rooms. I was a solo traveller but had a good sized twin room located on the road side of the hotel ( so often when I have paid a single room supplement in UK hotels I have still been given a 'broom cupboard'). I had a pleasant view of a garden on the opposite side of the road. The room and bathroom were very clean and very fresh looking. I loved the coastal colours of the decor. There was plenty of drawer and wardrobe space with plenty of hangers. The hospitality tray was well stocked with a selection of teas, coffee, hot and horlicks plus a good supply of milk. Good quality biscuits were also supplied. Bottled water was provided on our arrival day.
The bathroom had an electric shower over the bath with good water pressure. The towels were lovely and fluffy.
As the hotel is an old building there are lots of twist and turns and steps to get to rooms but they just add to the charm.
The food is excellent with a good breakfast selection. Guests choose cereals/fruit/juices from a buffet and then staff take orders for cooked food. The evening menu is not extensive with 3 or 4 choices for each course but the food is of such good quality that it really doesn't really matter. There is a good selection of wines available.
For me the most important aspect of this hotel is the staff. They are brilliant: friendly, efficient and clearly very happy in their work ( a sign of a well managed hotel). Nothing was too much trouble.
The hotel is able to organise walking tours of the various islands with Chas. If you enjoy walking and want to learn more about all aspects of island life do go on at least one of Chas's tours - it will add so much to your knowledge of the islands.
