“A pleasant place to eat, but not very consistent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

The Mermaid is the closest pub to the quay in St Mary's - a good place for a warming drink after a windy boat ride, with real ale and local cider in the bar. If you go up the steps to the left of the bar there's a spacious dining room where you can eat in comfort and in pleasant surroundings. We ordered a number of different dishes at the Mermaid during our holiday in St Mary's, and the quality varied. On the first occasion, the prawn curry was tasty, and the serving generous, whilst the pheasant (a 'special') was chewy and inedible. When we returned, two of us had curry, but whilst it tasted as good, the portions were considerably smaller! The ice cream sundaes were very nice. In terms of price, it was mid range.

“Atmospheric pub”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

Has been very good, but at present service very very poor. Food average. There are unfortunately good and sad reasons for the down turn. Hopefully all will be well soon

“Fabulous food, fabulous views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 23, 2012

It was somewhat surprising to find such a wide variety of really good, interesting vegetarian food on offer, along with the regular fare. I had the cannelloni, which was fantastic, and my carnivore friend was also very satisfied. The service was fast and friendly, and the wine was excellent. The views onto the harbour were also interesting.

“Don't be deceived”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

A lovely find, all the better for it's deceptive nature. On the face of it a busy slightly disorganised pub, but underneath excellent food at great value prices and if you don't like the bar environment then take a few paces to the attached restaurant overlooks the sea!!! Basic menue is good but try the specials board if you can. Only negative is the 1970's toilet facilities which really are overdue a very serious makeover.

“No thanks”

Smelly!! Bleach and beer don't mix! The first thing you smell when you walk in is bleach - very off-putting.
