When it rains and rains, and your child is a teenager a luxury stop is worth extra, especially if the teenager gets his own room. This way we got two views, one towards the river and one from the corner "suite" towards the town and cathedral. Have travelled a lot in Spain, and this view beats nearly all rustique and beautiful traditional Spanish city views we have seen so far. Restaurant and common rest areas also exquisite. Very friendly towards pilgrims.

We stayed at this Parador because it was on the Camino de Santiago route, and convenient. The rooms were tired. The beds not terribly comfortable, and the pillows, like all of the paradors we stayed in, terrible. The bar was small, and don't order a Martini. You will get Martini & Rossi on the rocks. The food was nothing great, but we were tired from all of our walking, so any food was fine for us. We were on the second floor, and the noise from a private party in one of the dining rooms carried up into our room. It you are walking the Camino de Santiago, I would suggest you stay here over a hostel. I just really wish the paradors would get better pillows.

We spent a week in Spain and stayed in Paradors for 6 of the 7 nights. This was our first and it was lovely, really good service, nice garden sitting in the sun overlooking the river which is the border between Spain and Portugal (worth a walk over as there is a citadel just in Portugal). The Parador was very good, large bedrooms and the standard free drink at night (for Amigo members). Good breakfast and brilliant value for money. Tui is a nice small town with a very good old town centre - very Spanish.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view

I have stayed in a number of Paradors and I am left with the thought
That they are trained to give poor customer service. Without fail 'indifference' is the norm. Until, I experienced a level of negativity when staying at this Parador.
We arrived at the hotel having walked the Camino from Porto. We needed to find out what time and from where we should get a train to return us to Porto. The guide books and Internet were not clear on how to do this. In the absence of a concierge we asked the receptionist for assistance. (We were travelling back over the Spanish/Portuguese border which had a time difference). The receptionist refused point blank to assist us despite offering to pay for any call she made. No way could she be persuaded to assist.
Needless to say we would not return. The building close up was neglected and we couldn't wait to get out.

Stayed for one night in April. Hotel very pleasant and service quite good. Our room was on the ground floor and we had a small private garden to sit in and enjoy the evening sunshine. Had a very pleasant walk along the river bank to the old town and enjoyed the scenery. The pool was closed, but it was April and we didn't expect it to be open. Breakfast was not remarkable, not much variety and staff were in and out of room so had to go and find someone for coffee etc.Views from hotel were very attractive.

Room Tip: Our ground floor room was adequate and the private patio was a pleasant and unexpected extra.

Palacio Parador is a really great Palace. Location, surrounding, the house itself just breathtaking. The weather was unforunately not that good, we had lots of rain and it was windy. So the place, its really an old Palace was a bit chilly and moisty. But in the summer with warm weather its for sure better. Service was ok, breakfast good, could have be with more variations. Rooms were good, but a bit old-fashion in a way that you feel a renovation would be needed. But for generally were absolute ok and clean. Recommendable hotel....

This was my first stay in a Parador and I already knew it wasn't going to be the most stunning architecturally (there is stiff competition from the nearby Baiona balanced on the edge of a headland with the sea crashing around it!) But Tui Parador is nice enough. It's quite a grand building and has a lovely restaurant with huge glass windows overlooking the gardens and the Portugal hills beyond, over the River Mino.
The whole parador was spotlessly clean, the staff were friendly and there was loads of choice at breakfast and it was very nice and fresh. We also had one evening meal which was very nice but very expensive. Our room was rather grand, overlooking the river with Portugal a stone's throw away. The bathroom was absolutely huge with a clean white marble effect and huge fluffy towels. The bedroom was great, but quite corporate and a bit dark. Our only real gripes were that the bed was really really hard and the lovely shiny wooden floorboards meant there was a lot of noise from guests in adjoining rooms as they walked about. We did ask about a softer bed or some padding and the staff were lovely, but explained that all the beds were the same, and as they use sheets and bedspreads and not duvets, there was nothing they could do to cushion it for us.
Also, given the price we were paying, I was very disappointed that they didn't throw a bottle of free mineral water in! Every one of the other smaller guest houses we stayed in on this trip did just that and it was a nice refreshing touch. In the parador you had to pay if you used one of the bottles in the fridge. But that may well be just a parador thing.
However, our sheets were changed after 2 days, which was lovely, as we were staying for 3, parking was plentiful and free and the views of the river and the walled city of old Tui were wonderful. It's in a great location to walk into town or over the bridge to Portugal and the ancient walled town there. I think though that we had just got used to the very personal service of a small bed and breakfast in Muxia just prior to this, with amazing food and prices and friendly personal attention, and the parador just felt a bit corporate.
