This was by far our favourite hotel on our Tuscan trip - certainly not the most luxurious or well appointed or exclusive of the hotels we stayed in, but definitely our favourite.

Andrea upgraded us to a fabulous room overlooking the garden, pool and the rolling countryside – an advantage of arriving in late autumn. Décor is simple and elegant but will shortly need a spruce up, but the style worked well with the property and the location - large bathroom with great toiletries etc.

Food is pricey as there isn’t any other choice in the hamlet, but if you don’t mind driving and not drinking, then there are places nearby. We just enjoyed staying put in the hotel and chilling out. One night we just asked the kitchen to make us a traditional pizza and we ate that with a bottle of red in the room –so one doesn’t have to fork out a fortune to eat each night. For me it was like being a guest in a friend’s beautiful home. It has a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and the styling, combined with the historic house and charming scented garden combined to create a very seductive mix.

Don’t expect super duper fancy bathrooms, beds, or linens – this isn’t that style – it’s certainly upscale but really I see it more as a posh guest house rather than a exclusive boutique hotel and for me that is a complement – I could have stayed for so much longer – I felt so at home, just chilling in the garden, or flicking through glossy books in the library or chatting to fellow guests and making friends over cocktails.

Breakfast was splendid – uncomplicated but very tasty and Andrea was so accommodating to everyone’s needs, from gluten free to caffeine free!

I really recommend this place for a chilled stay – its isolation is an advantage. BTW, our car navigation took us to the door of the hotel. The tiny village is on digital maps and when we arrived we asked locals where the hotel was and they pointed behind us, and we were right by the gate – parking was easy off season but I imagine in summer it will be a very different story as the square only had spots for about 8 cars and that is for all the villagers not just the hotel guests.

My every well travelled young family (kids 12yrs & 9yrs), have enjoyed some fabulous villas and boutique hotels on our month long holiday in Italy. This was the only regrettable choice we made on our entire trip. This quaint property is rustic from the outside and the pool area is very charming. However:
1. it's incredibly difficult to find, even with a navigation system.
2.Once found, you are stuck, as there is no choice but to have dinner at the Villa
3. Good luck trying to park your car
4. The dark "shabby chic" rooms have little if no window coverings and our bed was not only tiny but hard as a rock.
5.breakfast was very limited and not set up for our 9am start
Enough whinging. Maybe we had just been spoilt by all our other accommodation choices??
I don't really know what on earth The Smith's were thinking when they included this property?? We usually love their properties.

We stayed for 3 nights in room 3 which was spacious and functional. The bathroom had an enormous sunken bath for two which was great! Overall the decor to the hotel was grey, contemporary chic and worked well. Breakfast was self service and good quality, but a little limiting - only offered cooked eggs on 1 day. Staff were polite and helpful. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious and plentiful...along with a good selection of wines. We were surprised at such a chic location not to have LCD TV in our rooms and wireless connection was poor and didn't work in our room. We had a relaxing stay and enjoyed dinner in the restaurant each night we stayed - delicious.

We stayed at Villa Sassolini for three nights and had an awesome time. The hotel is approached from Montevarchi via winding lanes and stands in the middle of the small village of Moncioni (be warned there is not much here!). We had room 9 at the top pf the hotel with draw dropping views, great to enjoy in bed with a cappucino in the morning with the sun flooding through. Bathroom was spacious and all room furnishings very easy on the eye.Food was delicious, service was very pleasant from Andrea (manager), even forcing tea and cappuccinos on us very early in the morning before we left for the airport (PIsa by the way is only about 1hr 45mins and mostly motorway so very easy) but perhaps a little stilted from the remaining although absolutley nothing wrong with it. Decor and design is beautiful inside the hotel, very chic and cool without being intimidating. Overall - fully recommend Villa Sassolini - just pack your cool clothes!!

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Villa Sassolini and really enjoyed the stay. On our arrival the ever smiling and helpful Andrea informed us that we had been upgraded (for 4 nights) to a suite. He did not say the best suite in the hotel but I am sure it must have been as it fully overlooked the pool and had the most spectacular views. We ended up having to move on our last night but the room we moved to was just as good.
The owner of the hotel has spent a fortune on it and it really shows. The decor is very cool and very untypical of the traditional Italien old hotels. We loved it.
The breakfast is good although it could be varied a little. The pool was cold water although it was so hot laying around it that I found it very refreshing. The lunches were adequate although they seemed to run out of some items regularly (but very nicely informed to us by hardworking happy George).
Our first evening meal was poor and sitting inside the restaurant was cold and lacking in atmosphere but our second evening meal was much better and sitting outside in the very wild garden was a dream.
Andrea was full of good advice, help and recommendations that were all fabulous. He was even very concerned that we were alright when we came back very late one evening.
It is very worthwhile visiting this hotel but really only suits couples who want to sit and relax in peace and quiet.
I would also say that the drive up from Montevarchi is long and winding but the road is a full proper road and very safe...even my wife drove it.

We spent 5 days in Villa Sassolini in August 2010. For the firts 3 days we get suite, then de luxe room. We get a special price, but anyhow, price is not corresponding with value. Siute was nice, roomy, nice view. de luxe room was also nice, roomy, view was to narrow street.
Breakfest was very good, with eggs, fruits, cappucino, hams, cheese. But also, not for the money we payed.
The pool was nice, but again, water in August was cold. Dinner we had was over prized, but good.
As were mentioned here, there is perfect restaurant nearby (about 10 km up the road) i Starda, absolutely perfect, menu with wine for 25 EUR, Michelin recomended.
Back to hotel. Stuff is OK, Georgo and Andrea are helpful, speak english pretty good.
Suma sumarum, very nice hotel, but not worth such a money. For couples ideal hideway.
