This is a wonderful place for a horseback riding holiday, even in September when bugs are, unfortunately, plentiful. Owner/hostess Jenny Bawtree is a no-nonsense Englishwoman and her operation is a well-run ship indeed. Activities are carefully planned and start punctually. The horses are sweet-natured, beautifully trained and well cared for. The farmhouse in which she lives and her guests stay (unless they are on the point-to-point "Seven Castles of Chianti" ride) is rustic but clean and comfortable. The delicious Tuscan country cooking, served up at a long table with bottomless bottles of Chianti wine and Jenny presiding over the table with humor, charm and expert knowledge of Italian language and Tuscan art and culture, will warm your heart and your belly. Our evenings were full of lively conversation and laughter. Jenny and her head instructor/guide Eraldo lead brisk rides through the beautiful Chianti countryside, and you can also take lessons in the ring with Eraldo, a fine instructor. Jenny mixes a modest amount of sightseeing into her program. I've been on more guided tours of churches and museums than I can count, and Jenny's beat them all--she tells you the fun stuff about what you're seeing. For those who don't ride horses, you can bring a car and have easy access to Florence, Siena and Arezzo if you're interested in cities, there are many marked hiking trails, and Jenny has an enormous library. Highly recommended.
