Don't know where some of the people complaining about this hotel stayed, but it doesn't sound like the Hotel St. Michele we stayed at. We were part of a Cosmos tour, stayed here two nights and found it to be very nice - clean, No complaints. Breakfast selection was ample and good. Maybe some of these people have never traveled to Europe - things are different in other countries. Breakfast doesn't include eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes. The location is very nice with a beautiful view of the bay and is only a short walking distance from the center of town. Would have liked to stay longer.

This hotel is nothing like the website's presentation. Looking forward to this supposedly 4 star accommodation for our last night in Italy and we were completely let down. Our pictures paint a completely different picture from how the website depicts the place.

Initial impressions were: dirty exterior, run down, dilapidated, is it even open? Reception cold and dark upon entry. The two staff members there were rude and appeared annoyed at our presence.

Room was small with uncomfortable beds. "Terrace" was comprised of a plastic lawn chair, a dead plant, and a view of unkept landscape. Breakfast consisted of stale cereal, dried pastries, yogurt in cracked containers, and eggs that you had to hardboil yourself.

Our concerns with the place where met with blank stares and a reponse of "we just opened for the season." The work that needs to be done both in the exterior and interior would take months. There was no active work being done around the place.

It appears that the place used to be very nice and maybe worthy of the 4 star rating complete with a restaurant, bar, dance club, large pool, but it should probably be demoted to a 1 or 2 star hotel. It is a very unfortunate situation.

This is probably the worst hotel we have every stayed at.

Stayed in a basic room albeit with a sea view from a very small balcony. Water pressure in bathroom was very low at all times making it difficult when washing hair.Beds were comfortable.Reception staff very businesslike. Dining room very pleasant with lovely views.Meals varied in quality from day to day although the pasta dishes were very good. The same potato dish was served three days in a row which was unacceptable in a 4 star hotel.Breakfast was adequate but the watered down orange juice and croissants had disappeared before we arrived in the dining room on four mornings.Disappointingly, the Hotel chose to ignore my birthday, but that summed up the attitude of the family owners who were more interested in putting up signs telling guests how much they would have to pay for the hire of sunbeds around the pool. Capri is beautiful. We would love to return in the future but will choose another Hotel.

We had a nice room - great large balcony. BUT - it costed a fortune and is SO not worth it compared to the other many hotels that we stayed at throughout Italy. So, if you booked a room, be ready to be disappointed.
There is no room service. Hold on - I wanted to bring my own breakfast to my room, but couldn't. They had to bring it and "surprise" it cost 5 Euros for that. Of course, they didn't tell me that.
One other thing - but it has nothing to do with the hotel. There are NO excursions or ANYTHING to do once you get to Capri. Nice place for a night - not 4 like me.
The hotel was ok, but nothing to write home about.
Other guests that we ran into had bugs in their bed and room! YIKES!!!!

Besides the view from my room and the pasta I ordered from room service...I can't say anything really stuck out as outstanding from the Hotel San Michele. Granted, it was fairly windy, party overcast, and at times a bit chilly while I was there which can obviously effect one's experience but in general, everything was just average. The view however was spectacular...my little single room overlooked Capri with the Sorrento Peninsula in the distance. It is also fairly well situated just a few blocks down the road from the center of Anacapri. While this worked overall for my purposes this time, I likely would not stay there again.

The hotel does not live up to its 4 star rating.

The room: Our room was shabby and tired, too small to be called a room – more like a small walk-in closet with a window. Its location above the main entrance and a busy road below did not add anything to its attraction. There was a leak on the ceiling (the result of the rain a day before) and a distinctive smell of a wet plaster; we had to keep the window open all the time (problematic at night when you are just above the bend of the busy local road with the cars/busses honking and accelerating every time when going around the bend).

The bathroom: The bath tab was big enough for a child but too small for an adult. The shower was ok if you like the sudden changes of water temperature (due to the guest next door flashing his toilet or washing his hands) and a very low pressure.

Food: The food was horrible, the worst I ever tried in Italy. We had lunch and dinner on our first day; food was so bad that we avoided the hotel cuisine for the rest of our stay (although it was paid for already). Our friends, who braved few more meals in the hotel, regretted it as the cooking did not improve...

The pool: We did not swim as the water was too cold. However, we tried to use the swimming pool area and get the most of the few sunny days. Officially the pool area closes at 6 pm, but from 5.30 you are made aware that you are not welcome any more – not a relaxing experience...
Also, after paying extortionate price for the room, we were asked to pay 1.50 Euro per each beach towel per day and 6 Euro per every use of the sun bed. Do not get me wrong, I do not mind paying for a good service; I don’t like feeling cheated or taken advantage of.

Few more little things: contrary to what hotel advertises there is no internet connection in the rooms and TV is useless - unless you speak Italian. And check your final bill - you might find few surprises there.

The room, the service and food were very disappointing.
I won’t go back. I won’t recommend it to a friend.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of an Archers Tour. The hotel location is superb, nearly at the top of the island. The views from the restaurant at breakfast were breathtaking. The furnishings in the public areas of the Hotel were fantastic, very Italian Antique. The rooms however were quite basic,at least ours was,but the beds were comfy. The towels provided however were the worst I have experienced anywhere in the world, thin waffle material that was impossible to dry yourself with.
There was a very nice bar in the basement of the hotel, where they had a very good singer both nights we were there.
The included breakfast and evening meals were adequate.
There was a very nice swimming pool in the hotel grounds which we didnt use as the water was freezing, but it must be great in hight of Summer.
