“Just perfect retreat - 10/10 and we will return”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

Beautiful! Homely but professional. This hotel gets 10 out of 10 and we will definitely return. Simply nice people to be around with B&B prices even backpackers can afford.
We've been travelling around the world and stayed in some fabulous hotels but this truly beats them all for 'returnability'.
Il Girasole's concept is simple but totally provides everything you need in order to enjoy and savour Capri. The sunsets from the terrace are to die for, night after night, and most rooms overlook the bay with Islands in the distance. The owners focus upon creating a relaxed atmosphere and giving you the kind of experience of Capri you want and they are friendly but discreet and generous with their breakfasts and facilities. Angela and Francesco's warm and welcoming personalities shine through their staff, particularly Domenico (lovely, warm, unassuming man). The pool was clean and a real luxury given the low prices of the hotel.
Capri itself is a must see of course but Ana Capri is the hidden Gem. (we almost didn't want to share our secret). Walk through the village and notice that the locals smile at you (at first we kept looking behind us not thinking the smile was sent our way but yes it was !!!.) They're even pleased to help you find your way around. The men ALWAYS stand up for the women on the buses and it's like being transported to a pre-war era of genteelness which just makes you want to smile. Everyone chats to the bus drivers and they all seem on first name terms on the Island... but you don't feel excluded from the 'club' you feel welcomed into it. You begin to realise these are people who know they are lucky and love their island life. All this and the sunshine adds up to a win win. (we went in October and it was fabulous and I've been in May when it's beautifully warm too). If you go, hire a speedboat for the day (easy if you can drive a car, honest), the guys will teach you then set off...go around the Island, skinny dip in the green grotto, take a picnic and beer and realise why you are here. Life is for living and Il Girasole gets it.
You must get the bus from Ana Capri to Capri town. It is fabulously scary (my partner couldn't look down) but notice how the little old ladies take it in their stride whilst you're quivering. Don't miss the ski ride up to Mount Solerno, the winding streets of Capri town, Marina Piccola.... I could go on but I might be delaying you from snatching the last available room.
By the way we just read the review entitled "Avoid Room 14......" and we think this is a strange posting because we also ALWAYS check beds and did so and found nothing but cleanliness.

As we checked in we got to room 14, and as we made habit of doing, we stripped the sheets and began our examination for bed bugs. Sure enough without looking for more than 20 seconds there one was simply under the final sheet on the mattress. We quickly grabbed our bags having experienced this serious issue previously and headed back to the front desk. They were very helpful, yet, quick to move us to another room as if they were already aware. The overlook from the hotel was very beautiful and the second room was clean. We did have a good night sleep and enjoyed the overlook with some pizza from Aumm Aumm and a fine bottle of vino rosso.

We enjoyed our experience of staying at this hotel. The staff were all super friendly, welcoming and as helpful as could be. We utilised the free minibus transfer from the port which came in very handy (both to and from the port). The accomodation itself was nice enough, with a lovely pool and sun terrace area which we were lucky enough to get some sun for the couple of days during our stay. The room itself was very large and spacious and addorned with a very italian decor which we apprecaited. The bed was comfortable, the windows opened / closed properly plus air conditioning provided and in working order. The shower was great and the room very clean. Breakfast was very good as far as Italian style breakfasts go! Be sure to ask them to make a latte / cappacino for you from the machine behind the counter. The only limiting aspect to this accomodation is that the location is a little out of town, even from the main square of Anacapri. It's about a 10 minute walk each way to the shops and back, which if you are staying for a few days can get tedious. There is also no cafe or restaurant on site so do be aware of this when booking. But, as they say you get what you pay for, and we enjoyed our stay. Not sure that we would return to this hotel given the location, however we did enjoy the stay that we had.

We stayed here for 2 nights and I would definatlety go back again. We were collected at the port by the staff and they could jot have been more helpful or friendly.
You have about a 10 minute walk Into the centre of Anacapri, or the bus stop for Anacapri and Capri is about a 2 minute walk.
The rooms are nice and simple. Walls are a little thin and could hear the person next door use the bathroom or shower but not a huge problem.
Pool is a little small but good enough to cool off if its to hot.
All in all a really nice hotel and great staff.

If you can get a reasonable rate for this hotel ($125 or less), you should definetly book it. You must also be capable of walking as the taxi or bus from the Marina cannot drop you at the front and there will be stairs to climb. The taxi dropped us off at a path with a sign for the hotel at dusk. We walked about a half block and had not seen anymore signs so kept going and found it. It is a family run business and the gentleman who helped us with our bags greeted us with a smile and was very helpful and welcoming. The woman who checked us in was cold and accusatory. Apparently in Italy, there is a fee for children to be in the room. The room was simple but had windows that opened up to a gorgeous view of lush foilage and the mediterrean. Be sure to ask for extra pillows as the one given is as flat as a pancake. There were plenty of places to relax and meditate around the property. Very peaceful. The pool is unheated but there are plenty of lounges to sunbathe. The breakfast was the basic european breakfast. You will have to ask for coffee of cappucinno as it was never just offered. The hotel is close to downtown Anacapri and made for a nice walk. It is also possible to walk to the Grotto Azzura and the Lighthouse from the hotel. It took us an hour of unhurried walking. They have a shuttle that will take you to and from the Harbor but it is also not offered so be sure to ask.

I traveled to Anacapri after a trip with friends to get a couple of extra vacation days in before heading home. The island was beautiful and so unique, I really enjoyed walking around and seeing all of the different views from the island. The hotel was also very scenic with a gorgeous view from the pool deck area. The rooms were fairly small and basic but also clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and the included breakfast was good. The hotel was a little far from the center of Anacapri which required a bus ride from the center and walk through the lovely Capri pathways to get to the hotel. While it was scenic, it was a bit dark and quiet at night walking back to the hotel. Thankfully, I was only traveling with a small backpack but don't know that it would have been very convenient if I had carried a suitcase, which I left at the train station in Rome and recommend if possible when traveling to Capri due to the many stops in getting there. For the price and view, the hotel was a good find.

OMG....this island was amazing...weather, views, drinnks and food on the island are great...
The team at the hotel are so service oriented, they really made us feel welcome...Domenico and Angela are great...
So..the hotel will arrange a pick up from the ferry, when we arrived we were upgraded to a suit...Angela recommended a great restaurant called Il Cucciolo, again amazing views and lovely sea food...
The hotel has a great view over the sea and with the sunny weather we enjoyed several drinks just watching the sea and listening to music.
Breakfast is good, the hotel opened breakfast early on the last day, overall.....Great! We will definately return to Capri and Il Girasole.....loved it!
