This is a gorgeous , peaceful, incredible, historical home built on a foundation of ruins perched high up on the cliffs of Anacapri, overlooking the sea on the Marina side of the island. What makes it so unique is that it feels so ancient but is relatively young built in early 20th century that was the realization of a dream of Axle Mundthe - a most amazing doctor who died as recent as 1949, a real renaissance man who came to Capri, loved it and restored and built this amazing property. What, I think, makes this such a special place, is the beauty of the house and garden, and the unique beauty in this man's heart. He loved healing people both medically and psychologically, he loved his dogs, birds, animals, and there is a most unique love story that lasted over 30 yrs with the Crown Princess of Sweden. All along the way, as one tours the garden and house, you are introduced to excerpts of his writings or stories which are in Italian and English. My intention is to get his famous book, the Story of San Michelle. ( or The History of San Michelle). And also a book about his biography. This garden and house is right up there as a "10" with visiting Villa Cimbrone and Villa Rufulo in Ravello. A real highlight.
