The Caesar Augustus is drop-dead elegant. From the stunning views of the terrace, the perfect Bellinni sipped thus to the wonderful food in the restaurant, the hotel is a quiet triumph. One can have a quintessential Capri experience-sun soaked, breeze- whipped, view- satiated, well- fed, well-drunk, book-suffussed without stepping out of the hotel.

Its also nice to come to a place where the other guests are not oligarchs or denizens of that oily, constantly moving pack called the Eurotrash. Here, the guests are nicely dressed, chatty and of the world. The staff is discrete, yet friendly enough. Anacapri is the nicer part of the island; the lovely Villa San Michele is above the hotel and its gardens can only be described in superlatives.

The reception staff is eclectic and have a sophisticated view of the island-they know exactly what to fix for guests without a fuss-boat tickets arranged, tours arranged, restraunts booked, shops recommended-its all very easy.

I wanted strains of Cole Porter-the pianist obliged. I wanted Frank Sinatra singing from, 'Come Fly with Me' -that was arranged on the hotel sound system. I wanted the pitch-perfect Bloody Martini-it arrived at elbow with a perfect, plump spear of asparagus. And the view followed.

Spectacular views from terrace, pool, outdoor dining area, and our room's terrace. True the latter was not private, since people walked by slightly below us, but that really did not matter since it was almost a 180 degree view and huge. The room was spacious, and we had a comfortable king bed and separate sitting area. We also loved the location, a short walk to Anacapri, which is a lot calmer than Capri town. Yet it was very easy to get to the latter - for either dinner or our short hikes every day - by hotel shuttle or public bus (which was simple to use and had its own great but somewhat hair-raising views). Looking at the criticisms in some other reviews, I agree that some of the wait staff could be friendlier, but everyone else was very helpful. We actually had a very nice meal, and had a spectacular outdoor table. True things were expensive, but this was a special birthday trip and all of the luxury hotels we elected to stay at he'd over-priced drinks and food. But in all of them, you were paying for the very special location. Ultimately, our experience may have been different, and better, from those of other reviewers since we were there in May, preseason for Capri. The hotel was not full and the weather was cool enough that there was certainly no stampede at the pool nor was there any competition to speak of for prime outdoor dining. Would we stay again - absolutely. We loved the walks on Capri, and liked being able to retreat from the crowds of Capri town ( yes there were crowds in the center during the day, even in off-season) to our lofty perch above the sea.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon in June 2014. Luxury that we can't afford every month, but nonetheless, it was our honeymoon!

We arrived in Naples and jumped in a cab to the hydrofoil... **CAUTION** ... Agree €20/25 before departing! We were charged €40 for "supplements"!

Ok, back to CA. We were greeted at Capri harbour with out own private shuttle bus. This was a pleasant experience with chilled water & lemon wipes to freshen up.

Our room was 210, amazing views, clean, authentic decor & a bottle of prosecco so celebrate our wedding (very sweet touch).

We had arrived at 8pm ish so we were hungry. We went down to the absolutely stunning terrace for drinks and food. We waited 35 minutes before being attended to (after asking twice for service). Then we were advised that there wasnt any food available at this time & it'd be up to the chef. The chef agreed to make a Club Sandwich, nothing else. €28 for a club sandwich I might add! Washed down with a margarita for €26, I was beginning to feel nervous about the extra costs. So our first hour or so on the terrace, we'd already got an impressive bill of €88! Maybe easier to accept had the service of been better?

Pool etiquette.. Select your sun loungers before going to breakfast. It's the done thing here! Very good service around the pool with towels etc. The pool area is beautiful. Careful with the diet cokes though; €9 each!

The restaurant is in a beautiful location but disappointing if they sit you outside. Our first bill was €160 for two courses each and a bottle of wine. The food was average. We like our restaurants but neither of us have spoken about the food since which says a lot! It was just ok.

On the Sunday, we ventured to Anacapri but everything was shut (8pm at night). So, we had no choice but to eat at CA again. This time, we spotted a table outside & my husband asked if we could have it. Of course we could...€50 supplement......Ker-Ching!!!! Restaurant bill €230 for two courses each and wine!

The best experience we had was a bottle of Pinot (highly recommend!) for €30 sat right at the end if terrace. Yes there's a little road noise there but it adds to the atmosphere.

The hotel grounds are fabulous. The walks are beautiful.

The staff were mixed. Reception are great, terrace are slow.

We asked for two glasses for our champagne in the room but they never arrived. Neither did we chase or perhaps they would of done.

The balconies aren't private, but we understand why as it'd ruin the views.

The Maid's are noisey 'til late at night & early in the morning! Slippers is the way forward for them - their shoes are very noisey!! Something a lot if guests' passed comment on.

Get the hotel to book your hydrofoil tickets on departure - it's cheaper (yay!) & easier.

Capri was busy and little culture.

Anacapri is better although for us, the hotel views were our favourite part.

4 nights at CA and I guess it's a mixed report. Did we enjoy our honeymoon? Yes. Would we go back? No.

The most remarkable feature of this hotel is its location which is stunning with timeless views across the Bay of Naples that will leave you swooning, particularly with a glass of something cold at sunset. The CA clearly has many fans but, measured against others in the same class, for me it fell short - my overriding impression was of a grand old lady trading on past glories.
What didn't measure up against the best in class? first, the bedrooms. Spotlessly clean with efficient aircon but the double bed was not king size (cosy even for an average sized couple!) and the mattress was not especially comfortable. The bedroom furniture was an eclectic mix of old treasures and new stuff which was redolent of a guest house rather than a luxury hotel. Similar theme with the bathroom which was clean and efficient but no more. Second, the service. Varied frustratingly between outstanding and poor - reception staff were generally very good but more than one of the waiting staff bordered between disinterested and rude (and no this was not typical in other hotels we stayed in the area). Generally, the brigade did not seem all to have signed up for Team CA. Third, the food. Generally OK without being memorable - but relative to the cost we ate far better in local restaurants. Finally, the outdoor facilities - fantastic pool but the kitchen is located in the same area so that unless you grab a sun bed on the far side there is a sound track of kitchen noise to keep you awake. Similarly, the terrace off the main lounge is fantastic but at one end there is frequent road noise as passing traffic negotiates a sharp bend outside the hotel. Overall, for me, relative to its desired market position, this is a hotel that could do (and clearly has in the past done) much better.

Room Tip: View of the Bay of Naples essential

Nestled on the clift overlooking Marina Grande, the hotel position is simply breath taking and unique.
Came back to Caeser Augustus after many year, big thumbs up to the owners and the staff to have managed to bring the hotel to such high standards of exellence.
Friendly and professional staff.
Hotel room clean and well decorated in classy Italian fashion.

To try also the hotel restaurant "la terrazza di Lucullo", definetly deserves a shot just to taste the own grown vegetables, fruits and perfectly prepared fresh fish.

Definetly will go back

Room Tip: Stayed in room 124, not on the clift but still amaizing sea view

Hotel should be awarded 3 stars at best terrible service it was that bad that it made me do something I vowed I'd never do , write a trip advisor report. Coffee at breakfast cold asked for another pot and they then forgot to come back at all with coffee. Room service meal was cold on evening we arrived , we then sat in drawing room and were told we could only have a club sandwich ( 5star hotel?) stuck in an antiquated lift and staff ignored the alarm sounds. The list goes on Fawlty Towers wouldn't have a look in.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you can help it far better hotels on the island , got stuck in the lift press...

This was one of three hotels we stayed at during a 20th wedding anniversary tour of the bay of Naples. Unfortunately, this one took third place.
There are many positives -the terrace, the pool, the astonishing view, the public areas, the breakfasts.
The negatives connected to the hotel (and in comparison to two other up market hotels in Sorrento and Amalfi on the same holiday) were:
- the lack of soundproofing between rooms. I really don't want to be woken by next door discussing their plans for the day at 07.00 when I am on holiday.
- the tiny balcony with metal table and hard metal chairs that prevents you from enjoying the view from the room
- the lack of privacy on the balcony.
- the lack of tea and coffee making facilities
- very basic gym equipment, no towels or water provided.
We also arrived before our room was ready and were told to have a drink or take lunch in the restaurant, but the prices were too high so we went for a walk. We got the feeling that the "included" facilities were less important than the ones that generated more revenue and information on attractions outside the hotel was difficult to obtain
Unfortunately there was a problem with the alarm system in our room on our final night. Eventually, the alarm sounded throughout the hotel, but there was no evacuation and we were told to stay in our rooms ( incidentally, no fire escapes were evident, just the main staircase). False fire alarms happen but in any decent hotel,I would expect some mention of the incident and perhaps an apology for a disturbed nights sleep - but none was forthcoming as we checked out.
The location is stunning but the service could be better and more personal.

We are really sorry for the inconvenience you have suffered.

Must really be appened something inexplicable because many facts you wrote are obviously incidents that should not happen.

Especially our gym, certainly small, because designed to be immersed in nature, have towels and a refrigerator where water is available to our customers.

With regard to the coffee maker, as a respect of the elegance of the rooms, was our decision not to insert it. However we have 5 reception, available to anyone who wants to enjoy.

We hope to make them change their mind if they want to come back to us. Thank you
