The Caesar Augustus is a spectacular location if you like the idea of being on the top of a cliff with a few hundred meters of sheer drop off your balcony and a view of the mainland off in the distance. We got there for Easter, and the hotel was just opening up, their van picked us up by the ferry.
The hotel is nicely manicured, the rooms and furnishings first rate, the WIFI works really well, and the breakfast buffet is very nice. We had a package deal with a dinner and Easter lunch rolled in. Service is prompt and friendly.
The dinner was three courses and I was surprised that they just gave us free access to whatever we wanted off the menu (mains are typically 40 euros). While I enjoyed the food at dinner immensely, our teenagers didn't appreciate the leisurely pace of the restaurant. We had a similar experience with the Easter feast which was a mix of buffet and served courses.
But the good news was that while quick, simple food was not available on the hotel grounds, it is in easy walking distance. You just have to find the alley across the street that leads to a pedestrian street with galleries and eateries on it, or continue up the road to the main part of town. There are enough choices up in Anacapri that we didn't feel the need to do down the hill. The hotel claims it has food at the terrace/pool once it's fully open.
They will also shuttle you down to Capri in their van, though that happens in concert with their pickups for guests so it's not a sure thing. You can also summon a shuttle from Da Gelsomina, which we did for two meals.
Of course there's the price. I must say that I don't think I have ever had a better location to drink a sunset martini than their deck, but the 18 euro martini was just average, though accompanied by nice snacks. And we ate great pizza dinner at Pizzeria Aumm Aumm for the five of us for about the same price as one main course in the Caesar Augustus.
