“Blue Grotto is a one-time must-see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2014

A recent trip to Capri will offer us a lifetime of memories. Among them is our visit to the Blue Grotto. Picture yourself surrounded by enthusiastic, not-so-quiet Italian men all vying to fit their small, tourist-filled boat into a tiny, cliffside hole. With gestures and lots of Italian-languaged negotiating, they all somehow manage to squeeze their fare through the hole while their passengers have to duck low in order to make it through the itsy-entry. Once inside, the grotto offers a beautiful view of one of God's natural wonders. The water is lit from sunlight filtering through the hole so that it glows a fluorescent blue. It reminded me of the blue hue of a black-light I owned in my teens... except that the grotto comes accessorized with singing Italians.

Of note, this is a must-see... but only one time is needed.

“Must do in Caori”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

Its a huge cave hidden with rocky mountains inside the water. There is a very narrow entrance to this cave and the way the boat is taken inside is very interesting and an experience in itself (watch youtube videos). As you go inside, its dark but you will be amazed by the blue light coming from the water beds. Amazing site and amazing experience. All the tourists and locals recommended it to us and in-spite of high expectations we were super impressed with the beauty. The person rowing the boat will sing a beautiful song for you and make your experience worth it.
The tickets to this grotto are not included in the tours taking you around the islands. The price you pay is worth it. Highly recommended.

“Huge tourist trap”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2014

The beauty of the Blue Grotto is really spoiled by the boat operators who take you in there. We waited about an hour and a half hanging around outside on another boat, to spend all of five minutes inside the cave, which cost 13 euros in addition to the money we had already paid for the boat trip there.

As soon as we got in, we were told the 13 euros does not cover a tip for our 'guide.' I have no problems with giving a tip for good service, but this guy was extremely rude and arrogant, and wouldn't let us get off his boat without giving him more money. The whole operation is a mess - swimming inside is "strictly forbidden" but many of the operators will let people swim inside if you hand over more cash.

Our time would've been much better spent exploring more of the island. The grotto is beautiful, but the men running the boats really spoil it. Don't waste your money!

“Spectacular!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

Be sure you do this if you go to Capri. You get the boat in Marina Grande and ride about 20 minutes to the Grotto. You wait in an "italian "line to get in, climb into the row boats and if the day is not too choppy you duck your head and go into the grotto! It is the most spectacular sight! Do be sure to do it, getting into the row is a bit tricky but we did it about 4 years ago and it was in April and the water was perfect!

“Just takes time and money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

An expensive trip, firstly the boat to get to the caves from the port (or bus from anacapri), then the rowboat, then the entrance fee, and tip. The boats from the port are fairly frequent, but once at the grotto there is a long wait (45 minutes for us) before the rowboats are available. It's magic inside (if only they would not sing and spoil the effect), and a lot of time is queuing up to get back out instead of experiencing what tranquility you can. We didn't return to the boat (no one way fares)' but got dropped off at the stairs and took the bus (leaves every 20 minutes) to go back via anacapri and Capri.
