Far, far above habitation in Anacapri, an adventure it will be, when the hotel’s on-call courtesy car and driver greet you at the port. You will be whisked up, dizzily, through Capri “town” itself, on up to Anacapri, and finally way, way up above all dwellings, to the unanticipated and unimaginable serenity awaiting you at the top of the island.
If you are coming to Capri for the hustle and bustle of what you have heard about the island this may or might not be the place for you. If you want continuous excitement and superficial glamor stay in Capri itself. If you want to have a beautiful infinity pool and sweeping vistas, and to be surrounded by vineyards and rustic beauty, then this is the place. Stay here and let the driver deliver you to the daytime or night time action “down the mountain” in town. Come back up for the best cuisine on the island and the setting sun over Ischia. Once you arrive, you may not want to leave this idyllic spot.
Friends stayed in Capri in June and mentioned that they discovered the best restaurant of their Italian trip. It was Da Gelsomina. Part of the hotel, this restaurant offers excellent food with incomparable day or nighttime views. Dine at sunset. You will remember it forever. Homemade pasta is served as well as their own wine, produced on the property. At breakfast the marmalade is homemade.
The hotel staff are “family”, are super pleasant and available to assist at all times.
There are only six or seven rooms available. They are not extravagant, but they do have wonderful terraces overlooking the Mediterranean with, again, incomparable views. This hotel is not about the rooms. It is about the fantastic setting, the pool, the ambience and the food.
One downside is that Internet access, while advertised, is spotty. Perhaps that is a plus. Escape to Da Gelsomina and escape from the cares of the world.
I highly recommend this top-of-the-world hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights so it was excellent, the hotel grounds are terrific, peace and quiet + lovely views. It is family run and every member of the family is extra cute - not too friendly not to distant just the right dose. The pool is great, it's large and has a god view, the sunbeds are very comfortable too. The poolside bar is very nice too.

The downside: people come to the pool from outside the hotel (shows how good the pool is) that is not too bad but while we were there it seemed that there were 4 children for 1 adult. So there was a lot of noise and chaos and the pool seemed to be like the Gange river at some point!

Since we went off to discover the island we did not mind the crowd but if we were staying longer we probably would have.

The restaurant is amazing, the food is finger licking good. They grow their own fruit & veg and you can taste the freshness!

The hotel is a bit far from both centers but the shuttle service they provide makes it all ok.

My wife and I stayed here in June based on the reviews on this site, and had the complete opposite experience of the positive reviews. The location is in the middle of nowhere on top of a very steep and winding road. The free rides to and from the ferry terminal or downtown Anacapri offset this somewhat, but not enough for it to be worth staying here.

The rates are reasonable, and the views are amazing. However, because you are essentially held captive on their grounds once the sun goes down, you are forced to eat at their overpriced restaurant. At least the free breakfast lived up to European standards.

Service was a mixed bag. The manager did my laundry for free, which was awesome. But the waiters were constantly complaining about how overworked they were, and were generally inattentive and unfriendly. They also never mentioned to us that they were hosting a wedding reception during our last night there until the late afternoon. We were forced to go back to town to grab dinner because the restaurant was closed, and were kept awake until 3am by the wedding band upstairs.

Compared to the other hotels we stayed at during our trip, Da Gelsomina's accommodations are sub-standard. Because they have less than ten rooms, they are much more focused on being a profitable restaurant than a good hotel.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere within walking distance of town

Pickup from Anacapri was a great service. Views were spectacular. Food was good - great ingredients, average preparation (like all over this area), falanghina was not bad. Staff was attentive. Too many Englisg speaking American tourists (like at every restaurant and location in Sorrento-Amalfi). I am American and love all Americans. But I don't want to fly 6000 miles and get the same chatter and cross talk. If I ever return to this area (unlikely), I will definitely come back to this restaurant.

Capri had been on my bucket list for long. Gelsomina was a perfect place to be in Capri-A scenic, getaway from the hustle & narrow streets of Capri! It seems far from the centre of town, but with convenient buses that ply upto 2am , with pickup from the bus stop till midnight, makes it worthwhile. The shuttle was a blessing & always available, literally a phone call awayl.[of course you need a mobile / phone to keep in touch] Even though it was a bit far
The view from the room of the setting sun over the hump of ischia was gorgeous [photo attached].The experience at the pool was wonderful with the 'infinity feel', luckily for us we joined in their aqua aerobics class, which was a lot of fun..I'am glad my husband found the place through the net. In a VERY expensive island it wasnt too heavy on the pocket either!

Room Tip: All the rooms look out to the sea.

After a poor start to the holidays in Ischia, we felt reassured about the reviews as soon as we got to Da Gelsomina. Nestled among the vineyards (try the house wine), it was so peaceful, airy and beautiful ! We got there around 1pm and immediately went to the restaurant to have lunch, which was delicious. We stayed five nights, ate all our meals in the restaurant as the food was fresh, delicious and reasonably priced for Capri (probably the best value for money on the island). Pasquale and his team are very professional, competent and with a light touch, everybody can feel at ease there. The restaurant was full every evening and cameras were working overtime when the sun went down next to Ischia. It was always a great mix of tourists (Italians as well as foreigners) and locals. Two of the great walks of Capri actually start on the doorstep of the restaurant and we thoroughly enjoyed them. Going down to Capri to do another walk from there and visit the town was fine but it was such a relief to come back to this quiet place and delicious meals in the evening.

We had decided to go for a walk from Anacapri to the Belvedere and it happened that Gelsomina was on the way – what a perfect way to work up an appetite! The walk is lovely, through the vineyards and the Belvedere is very beautiful and impressive. Which was also what our lunch at Da Gelsomina was: fresh ingredients, simple but beautiful preparations, great combinations of tastes and yes, the organic wine is very nice. If you’re in the region, you cannot miss this place.
