“ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

We have just returned from our wonderful holiday at the Odyssey Hotel. Aghia Efemia.
Family owned with everyone so polite and friendly. The rooms are beautifully designed and very large. Each room has a balcony overlooking sea views, pool and garden area. So Fantastic.
We could recommend this hotel to the rest of the world. Spectacular views. Wonderful infinity swimming pool and sunbathing areas. Eat in or outside, viewing the 3D mountain views.
Everything is there for a spectacular holiday. You must make a visit yourself.
We cannot wait to come back. Thank you all so much.

Room Tip: Every room is a dream. Wonderful designer interior decoration. Each one is a different colour. So...

At the odyssey first 2 weeks in Sept.12. This hotel is superb, spotlessly clean, the staff cannot do enough to ensure your stay is a fantastic experience. Food was brilliant and the views...breathtaking. There are only 22 rooms so it is never crowded. The fixtures and fittings are of the highest quality and the bedrooms very tastefully decorated and very large. Gerasimos runs the hotel very professionally with Catherine A+B and Stavros, who gives essential Greek lessons over dinner for those of us who need them. I cannot fault anything in the whole 2 weeks.

We stayed at Hotel Odyssey for 14 nights in August 2012

We arrived at the reception area to the magnificent view of the bay over to more of Kefalonia on one side and Ithaka on the other. It was breathtaking. But the whole hotel is built so that all rooms have this wonderful view. The reception area included a lounge area with comfy seats, nice magazines and a bar section.

The manager, Katherine, showed us to our room, and ensured we could work everything- tv, safe (easy to use and free), electronic curtains, air conditioning. The room was everything we could have wanted - well furnished, very roomy with a spacious and comfortable seating area; a very large mirrored wardrobe with plenty of shelves (but a little short of hangers); large double bed (twins joined together) which was very comfortable indeed; the most efficient and quietest air conditioning I have ever experienced; very good quality carpet, and a balcony with the amazing view- this was a good size with a nice table and four chairs.

We went down in the modern lift to the floor below reception for the restaurant and swimming pool. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was good: Greek pastries; yogurt and honey; cheese, hams, bacon, Greek cheese pies, eggs, cake, toast and the chef's delicious homemade bread. We sat outside for all our meals except breakfast - though others did for breakfast too- because it was a little hot in the direct east morning sun.

From the restaurant the view seemed even better as it included the infinity swimming pool. This was plenty big enough for the size of the hotel and had the magic of swallows swooping down to sip water from it. Although the pool is open to non-residents, there was never a problem with noise or there being too many people. Towels are laid out - not because people have reserved all the sunbeds early, but because they are all ready, fresh for guests to use. There are plenty of sunbeds, chairs and tables and umbrellas. We sat a lot by the pool feeling so relaxed and welcomed, making good use of the pool bar (mezes and cold hot chocolate are excellent though perhaps not together!) The menu for the pool bar was quite extensive and the food excellent. There is a refreshing breeze from the sea.

We had dinner at the hotel about 6 times - there was an al a carte menu and a set menu. Both had a wide variety but included Greek traditional dishes. The set menu at 12 euros compared very favourably with the village tavernas and was excellent in quality. We can recommend the pork fillet, Greek apple "pie" and the chocolate brownies! Delicious!

The staff were very professional but relaxed and informal too, making it easy for us to feel relaxed ourselves. They got the right mix of service and friendliness, always willing to chat when we wanted to, but knowing when to leave us in private. They were kind enough to teach us a little about milking sheep and about St Gerassimos's Festival.

The hotel is set about 400 yards along a no through road from the edge of the main part of the village. It is a gentle stroll, with only slight intermittent inclines, along a small promenade type path beside the road. This runs above the shoreline and has several sets of safe steps down to the sea; however, there is only one small beach at this point but many flattish rock areas to swim from- the harbour has more beach but is a thin area of fine shingle/sand - this is not a sandy beach area but didn't put us off in any way.

The road leads to houses and a few tavernas, well spread out and another hotel much further up the hill. It is very quiet. Should you have mobility problems, you might want to do a bit more research, as the little 70 yard road or drive up to the hotel is very steep.

The village is very small, quiet and delightful. It has a cash machine (no bank), a newsagent with some holiday reading type English books, many small supermarkets, beach/tourist shops, an art gallery space, a car hire centre, and plenty of individual cafes and tavernas. The harbour is visited by flotilla holidays and some very interesting yachts. One taverna said it was open 24 hours but we never experienced any noise other than the bubble of really very quiet holiday makers. There is the remains of a small Roman villa - but brush up your Greek or Italian for the information board!

We found our room so beautifully kept that we were also happy to relax there too.

We did hire a car for seven days and visited Assos to climb up to the castle (do it early before the heat of the day) coffee, swimming in the natural harbour. Myrtos beach is wonderful but should it be windy, the tides can be dangerous. We had an amazing trip to Ithaka (from the harbour) including swimming from the boat in a beautiful bay and seeing a school of dolphins - though these are far from being guaranteed. If you decide to hire a "self-drive" boat, do it on a still day, unless you are already fairly experienced sailors. Although the tourist information centre was closed, Johnny at the "Boot Verhuur" centre was very helpful and the hotel reception could also provide answers to queries. Do try to see the turtles in Argosoli harbour (near where the fishing boats come in) and a short ferry trip to the Lixouri peninsula is very pleasant and the peninsula worth a visit.

All the staff at the hotel spoke excellent English and were all, always, ready to help. Indeed, we experienced an amazing level of friendliness and excellent English throughout the island.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed at with just the right mix of service, kindness, efficiency and comfort. We had a wonderful rest, came back feeling recharged and with the fantastic view still in our memories.

Thank you Katherine, Gerassimos, Katerina, Stavros, Sophia and Maria.

We did not try out spa treatments but as far as I could see, these were to be booked in advance that is why I have rated it as 3.

Room Tip: They all seemed wonderful. There are only 21 rooms in the hotel. However, our room was slightly set...

congratulations to the raftopoulos family for having a dream and building a hotel that sets a whole new standard for hotels in kefalonia, if not, most of greece. their vision and hardwork has truly produced a gem in agia efimia.

mr. raftopoulos along with his children, Catherine and Gerasimos, with his lovely wife katerina, have managed to create a hotel that meets every need a traveler may have and does so with the utmost professionalism and with a warmth that can only make you feel like a distant relative coming for a visit.   in many years we were never made to feel so welcome and at home as the raftopoulos family made us feel this past July.

while the hotel is so close to town, we were compelled to stay at the odyssey  almost every evening for dinner. chef pavlos has managed to incorporate the fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs that the family grows in their gardens into the menu.
the food is always fresh and even the breads and ice creams are made on the premises. chef pavlos presented some wonderful traditional Greek dishes as well as dishes with Asian, Latin, and Indian influences.

I cannot say enough about stavros, waiter extraordinaire, who was always professional and always cheerful and warm.

it was refreshing to see the raftopoulos clan working with a pride and enthusiasm that I have not seen in a long time.  I am sure that as the odyssey is discovered by others,  it will be harder for me to find a room at the end of my journey.
thank you for everything

Our second visit to this fabulous hotel. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished with large bathrooms and balconies. The views to Ithaca are magical. We sampled dinner one evening which was superb and so reasonably priced. The quality and service was exceptional. What elevates this hotel is that it is a truly family owned and run hotel where nothing is too much trouble. Our thanks go to Catherine and all the staff for a wonderful stay again and congratulations to them for maintaining the standards of this exceptional first class hotel. We can't wait for the next time.

Room Tip: All rooms outstanding with large balconies and sea views.

Didnt actually stay at the hotel but used the pool every day as where we were staying didnt have one. We were given a very warm welcome by Gerasimos and his family. The pool area was really good, the drinks and good food were reasonably priced.Would certainly think about staying here as the rooms look absolutely fabulous. If you are given the service that we were when we were not staying guests you wont be disappointed.

A family owned hotel lwhose staff are very friendly and profession.
Top quality hotel with spacious comfortable rooms, superb views & first class quality decor. Small but adequate gym. The half board deal was excellent value - Food is good and includes authentic Greek dishes. 5 mins walk to harbour where there are plenty of restaurants - our favourite was "The Local" opposite the little jetty. Aghia Efimia has a great feel to it, even the shopkeepers are friendly. There are 3 small stony beaches across the road with excellent swimming in clear blue seas - you need water shoes for these. Myrtos, Anti Samos are excellent beaches and within easy reach by car (We hired ours through Economy Car Hire which was cheap and efficient and includes CDW & excess). We hired a boat for a day but you can hire one for a couple of hours - great fun and recommended.
Fiskado is a must to visit, very pretty but expensive. Very pretty drive to Poros which is worth doing but it is quite run down, Lixouri is a working town and not very interesting but you can take a short ferry trip from the capital which makes it more fun. Skala is a modern resort with a long sandy beach but wasn't really worth the trip.
Only slight criticism we have is that ther wasn't enough umbellas or shade for the sun loungers + some fresh bread would be nice at breakfast for those of us that like "continental".
This hotel is a gem, visit it soon - you won't be disappointed.
