“Amazing holiday at the Iris”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

My Girlfriend and I were at the iris on Sept 19th 2012 for a week. Reviews always make you nervous but the "hill" people talk about to the hotel is just their driveway that has an incline. On arrival we were greeted by "Poppy". This wonderful lady is a machine. Reception, maid services and waiting on and always with a smile. We booked a twin but asked for a double on arrival and were handed 2 sets of keys to pick our preference. Spacious and very clean with great views. We headed down for evening diner and met the manager "George" and his beautiful wife "Isabella". They were very friendly and welcoming. Great salad bar, lots of fresh bread and 3 main courses to choose from and help yourself to as much as you like. I'm sure if it wasn't to taste George would get Chef Ramsey to knock you something else up. The bar opens for alcohol at 17.30 (12.30-15.00 for beer n wine during the day as well) with a beer pump and wine to help yourself to. Local spirits served at the bar by George's generous hand. All soft drinks from a machine available all day. Afandou town is a short and pleasant walk and has a lovely feel about it. Shop keepers very friendly and chatty. No pressure sales like you get in Turkey/Egypt. Some great restaurants/ pizza shops and bars. Acopolcos cocktail bar is a must for all ages. Owner Captain Mike and his brother and Mixoligist Dametre make a very entertaining night for all. And at 4€ a cocktail laced with booze you will smile all the way home. I mentioned to George we fancied a day at Lindos. He booked us a trip for just 24€ each. We walked to the local beautiful beach, had a coffee at the beach shack coffee shop and when we saw the cruiser coming towards shore we made our way to the waters edge. A speed boat came in to pick us up and take us to the boat. It took about 1hr 20 mins to Lindos with an absolutely amazing coastline. Lots of photos taken. We had 3hrs in Lindos, did some shopping in the great querky shops and had a beautiful meal at a rooftop restaurant to take in the amazing views. Back to the boat and half way back to Afandou we stopped off at a cove to dive off the boat and cool off in the clear blue warm waters of the Med before returning. Great day out and Recomended it to other guests who went 2 days later. They said they felt like celebs being picked up and dropped off by speed boat. We used the local bus service to go to the water park in Falaraki. This place is also Amazing. Slides like I've never seen 20€ each to get in and food and drink is cheap unlike most attractions. Got a taxi back as struggled to find bus but was only 7€ to get back. Haggle with taxi drivers if they quote more as they trying to make a living so often give a higher price when first asked. I asked George about scooter hire and he organised an 80cc bike for just 24€. He had the bike dropped to the hotel at tea time the day before. We used it to go to Rhodes old town which is a must. We also went to Anthony Quinn Bay with is the best place to go for snorkelling which was fantastic. We got back with the bike around 8pm and George sorted getting it picked up. Brilliant service. We went out into town on Sunday evening to enjoy some local cuisine. Great meal. Proper Greek meal with continuos plates of food and as much as you can drink for 10€ per person. Don't know how they did it. The next morning the Hotel Manager George asked where we were as he kept the chef on the night before waiting for us to come down for evening tea. When I told him we went out he said Sunday nights were Greek food night. I was gutted. Because I missed it and the other guests enjoyed it so much he did it again just because we missed it. Two other guests Emma n Lisa came back early from a day trip when they heard it was back on the food was that good. Finally the pool area is great. Lovely and clean and plenty of sun loungers. Temp in Sept was mid 30s all week at least. Tempeture gauge showed 30oC in the shade at 9am but was comfortable. Met loads of guests who have been back several times and George, Isabella, Poppy, chef Ramsey and the other staff cannot do enough for you. Thank you George and Isabella if your reading this for a great holiday. You will be seeing us in 2013. Happy new year and enjoy your break. Much love Martin n Kat xxx

I arrived here with my partner and our children after being told that it had entertainment which you need for yourself and children there was nothing, the beach was miles away we got told was walking distance the food was disgusting and being all inclusive there were limits on drink times and a half hour slot for ice cream once a day only kids not adults the room was horrible with no air con unless you paid 10 euros a day we were not told this, there shower barely dripped ok it's 3* but I would not put it as 1* we move hotel and then enjoyed our holiday as this was a VERY big disappointment!!!!!!!

We have just returned from Rhodes Greece where we stayed at the Iris Hotel Afandou for a 10 night stay.Sept 15th -25th
My first impressions were ......this is ok.
If you are a snob,fussy/picky person then dont stay here or read his review.
We were very welcomed by the staff who will put themselves out for you at all cost nothing is too much of a bother.
FOOD! The food was plentiful, you will not go hungry,BUT it was a very limited choice consisting of at least 3 dishes and the salads bar was also limited, but on the whole it was very good and always hot.The breakfast was the same all mornings eggs bacon frankfuter mushrooms beans boiled eggs along with the choice of cereals and ham and cheese, but on the whole again very plentiful and hot.
Rooms! This is a small downfall, the rooms are large and spacious but they really do need to be updated into the 21st century (see pics).when we arrived we never liked the room,we told them this and they arranged to have another room ready the following morning which was so much better,if ya going to stay here ask for a room on ground level. It was hot on our stay and some nights air con is needed, which is in rooms,BUT it comes at a price 10 Euros a night,if ya on a 14 night stay thats a whooping extra £100......Tip Either hire a fan for 3 Euros a night or go in to town buy a fan for 30 euros and at the end of stay sell it on to new arriving guests for 20 euros they will be glad to buy, then its sold on like a chain, saves alot of money this way.
HOTEL.. The complex was very clean and tidy at all time loads of sunbeds,no need to reserve with ya towel very quite and relaxing, but we were there in sept so earlier months ?????????
There was no form of entertainment, although we thought we read that there was maybe there was but, again on earlier months??????
The bar was always closed by 11pm but that should"nt bother ya unless ya have a drink problem.
On the whole it was a very pleasant relaxing stay, would i stay there again????????Most certainly.

We stayed at the Iris Studios in early September for 1 week. We were dropped off at the bottom of the hill, which wasn't a problem for us as we are 18 and 19, however this would be a problem for people that aren't steady on their feet as the hill is quite steep. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and were shown to our room straight away which was great. On arrival we found that air con had to be paid for as an extra, which we didn't know previously and so hadn't budgeted for this. We didn't end up getting air con, and just slept with the balcony door open!! This wasn't ideal, but it was our choice to do so, and the fact that we slept with the door open also shows how lovely and quiet the surroundings are as well as safe. We also only found out about the restrictions on the all inclusive a few days before we left to come on holiday, however they aren't unreasonable. It is too hot to drink alcohol throughout the day anyway!

Aside from these 2 surprises, we had a fantastic week at the Iris Studios. Although it is a little bit out of the way, Afandou is a short 10 minute walk away and has the bus service that takes you to Faliraki and the old town. Faliraki is probably only enjoyable for a younger audience, however the old town is a must visit and has something for everybody! We ate at a restaurant called Nicki's in the old town, which was down a little side street and was fantastic food, service and prices.

The staff at the Iris Studios were polite and helpful, and the rooms and the hotel itself were kept very clean. All in all, a great hotel if you know what the expect and make the most of it!

We stayed at the Iris Hotel in June 2012.
It was a very nice, family run hotel. Food was very good, the choice was also good. Something for everyone.
The bar was good, with cocktails included in the all inclusive, didn't like the HUGE flying bugs!! They only live for 12 hours, so in the morning they are all over the place dead!
They fly round the bar at night, with no sense of direction, when they hit someone, you'd hear a scream!
They didn't sting or bite, just dive-bombed!
The rooms were nice & clean, nothing special, but very comfortable. The pool area was good, plenty sunbeds.
Great views of the sea in the hotel. The beach is a half an hour walk, it's ok walking down there, but very hot & tiring walking back!!
Some fab tavernas in Afandou village, which is only a short 5 minute walk, take caution walking in the dark though as the track you have to take to walk down there is quite uneven.

We would go back there again, ignore any reviews that may put you off, theres always someone who isn't happy with the simplest things, like a cracked tile!!!! Who has the time on their holidays to go round taking pics of cracked tiles, I ask you!!!!

You would have a lovely holiday here (the owner, who works behind the bar is sooo Basil Faulty)!!!!

Room Tip: Try for the 1st floor x

Where to start- this is quite simply a lovely hotel, with amazing hardworking staff who would do anything for you. The hotel is a good size, with an amazing pool that is always clean and looked after. The rooms are again a good size and the views are amazing. Cleaned daily and fresh towels regularly. The food was always hot and a good variety, the chef and owner George was always asking if it was good and even one night with us being a party of 8 George rang the room as dinner finished at 8.30 and this was 8.20pm to see if we were coming down as he did not want us to miss our evening meal. We had an infant of 18 months with us and on our arrival George made a point in asking if there was any special baby food he could get in for us- lovely touch, how people can call him rude i will never know. His wife Isabell was equally as pleasant and nice always speaking to us and asking if we were ok. Afandou is an unspoilt traditional working village with lovely people. A visit to Danielles and he Acapulco bar is a must. You will never want to leave. As for people who moan about the hotel being on a dangerous main road to get to the beach, stop being lazy and walk to the top end of the village and walk the proper paths that are clearly signposted, we managed it with a buggie and a ten year old twice in the holiday. Also if you hire a car- tsambika beach and ageatha beach if a must visit, beautiful sea's and views. Overall this had been my 11th Year in Afandou im 25 years old and keep going back to a place that is lovely an finding the Iris re-opened 3 years ago was the perfect touch and ideal place to stay- cant wait for next year- we will be back :) Thanks George and Isabell and Poppy too xx

Room Tip: third floor has better views as it is higher and also a bit cooler with the breeze

We stayed here for 10nights in August school holidays. We weren't expecting much for the price we paid, we were pleasantly surprised. The food was better than we expected and we ate very well as did the kids. The pool was clean and big and the baby pool was perfect size. We were shown a high floor room but chose to take the ground floor as liked the terrace and couldn't be bothered keep going up to the room all the time. Poppy the cleaner was very friendly and linen and towells changed frequently. The people we met were friendly and everyone looked out for everyone and kept an eye on the kids, I would say it was probably one of the most friendly hotels we have stayed in. We went with our kids aged 3&6 and my parents came out for a week also and we all had a great time! The drinks and food times didn't bother us as we knew before booking so can't complain about That! We paid for the air conditioning and was worth every penny. We ate at a beautiful restaurant in afandou called four seasons. Would i recommend? No evening enterment which we also knew, we didn't care we went out to kolymbia the kids love it there.
