“IRIS Hotel Afandou Rhodes (THE PLACE TO SAY IN AFANDOU)”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

Just returned on Ist October 2011 from a beautiful weeks all inclusive holiday in the Iris Hotel, Afandou Rhodes.
We want to thank George & Isobelle and all their staff at the Iris, especially Poppy "Darling" for their very warm & friendly hospitality. We were very very impressed by the cleanliness of our room which was cleaned every day. The bed linen was also changed daily and the towels changes three times during the week.
Congratulations to the chef and kitchen staff for providing a very varied & delicious menu. Would have no hesitation recommending the Iris as a location for a stay in Rhodes. The Beach which was pleasent 30 miniute down hill walk from the hotel, was long, and clean with crystal clear blue water. The local, typically Greek village of Afandou (a 20 miniute downhill walk) is small but has all the facilities needed to cover most needs, with a good variety of tavernas, restaurants and bars. The local bus service to Rhodos or Lindos passes through the village.

Thanks again to all at the Iris for making our 1st visit to Rhodes so enjoyable.
Robin & Maggie

We arrived back from this hotel on the 22nd September. Overall we had a great relaxing time, rooms were pretty basic but clean. The AI food was nice and varied, always managed to find something to eat although quite often a little cold. AI drinks were ok, there was a choice of Vodak, Gin, Brandy, Ouzo, served after 6:30 & Wine/Beer self service through the day. If you are a fussy eater then needless to say you may struggle. We did go in to Afandou Town to eat one evening as this is just behind the hotel down a dusty path, some lovely places to eat an well worth a visit. Can't say that we would return personally but we did meet alot of people staying at the hotel the same time as us that returned year after year. All in all we wanted a last minute, cheap, relaxing holiday. This is exactly what we got!! Thanks George & Isabella for a lovely holiday.

Room Tip: I would opt for a room on the first floor - as we did have a little problem with the drains and stay...

We have just arrived back in the UK today and I can honestly say we had a lovely time. We booked it last minute and just wanted a quiet relaxing holiday where we could have some sun.
When we arrived we were dropped at the bottom of the hill which wasnt ideal (at 5,45am) but then once we got to the top we were plesantly suprised.
The whole hotel was clean and tidy, rooms basic but we stayed AI so we werent that bothered, its only a place to sleep and to be fair when you have had a couple of drinks who cares where you sleep.
Rooms were cleaned daily by Poppy and she is lovely, we even went into Faliraki for a night out and asked her not to wake us and she told us to find her when we got up and she would just come and clean the room then, bless her!
George and Isabelle were very friendly and would do anything for you, you just have to ask. And as for Flori on an evening, he will serve you drinks until you stop drinking and again will do anything for you if you just ask.
Pool area was clean and tidy and I always managed to get a sunbed (and we were not early risers).
Food was ok, I am not going to say it was the best I ever had but it certainly was not the worst, it was typical AI food, pork or chicken in a sauce, twice in the week there was a choice of fish. There was rice, chips, pasta and salads. You can even have chips for breakfast if you want to, and always bread and butter so you cant starve!
If you dont like anything that is available we had a walk down into Afandou where there were a few restaurants to choose from.
You need to try Mimi's that is a small Greek Tavern run by a lovely guy called George and the food is lovely in there and really good prices.
No entertainment in the hotel but to be honest we werent that bothered and just down the road in Afandou again there is a Karaoke bar and a couple of cocktail bars and if you really want it a bit more lively Faliraki is only 3 miles down the road. It cost 1.70 euro for the bus or 10 euro for a taxi.
Overall I would say this is definatley a relaxing quiet holiday but for what we paid we had a lovely time and can honestly say nothing to complain about.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor is slightly better in my eyes because you get a door at the back of the apartment a...

started this holiday on a very bad welcome , coach dropped me and my son at the BOTTOM of a steep hill . Was met by arragant young barman on reception , NO HELLO , NO WELCOME , just asked for passports ! Gave key to me and did not even say WHERE the room was ! Small shabby rooms . Aircon was bought strait away , cleaners turn it off when you are OUT ! If I pay for aircon it stays ON !!! Manager said we were room only , when I booked for self catering , asked for cooking pans and plates , they came the following day . Spent the entire holiday with friends in the village , iris was like a rest home ! No music only put tv on once while we was there ! Only to find out he had sky sports live and put it on 30 mins into the second half of the game !! Ate a so called bar b que dinner , very basic , tasteless . Beer was very cheap VAP on draught , all inclusive people ( mainly polish ) were given drinks in small plastic vending cups . Pool varied from day to day , either no sunloungers or very few broken 1 s . Overall it was used as a base to go to the village and other places on the island . the whole place needed general cleaning and painting , tiles on the walkways were broken , constantly being fixed during the 2 weeks ! ( you would think these would be done out of season , ready for the new season ) water was on sale at reception for 4 euros for 6 bottles ( 2.40 in local supermarkets ) was increased to 5 euros at the 2nd week !! ? Then the buffet menu was increased by 50 cents on the 2nd week !! ? Re. Increases .... Tax was to be increased on restaurants from 16% to 23% but no date was set for this season . on leaving took the chance to WALK DOWN THE STEEP HILL , just on the off chance the coach would not come up the hill , I WAS RIGHT ! Holiday taxes .com waste of money ! All other coaches managed to get up that hill !!

my husband ken and i stayed for two weeks all inclusive and were very pleased ,fresh good quality food served at every meal time ,its all greek but good wholsome stuff, that we never grew tired of,we found meals outside on the verander very pleasent and so much nicer than having to go into a hot dining room , everyone got dressed up for evening meals after playing in the spotless pool all day ,everywhere was kept spotless by everyone who worked there even george ,evening drinks where served in proper glasses not plastic ,if there is a down side then it would be a lack of puddings but the main meals where so beautifully prepaired that it was not a problem ,ana works so hard to keep everyone well fed and happy and the chef got huge pleasure seeing everyone enjoy his creations he works so hard ,and the blonde maid not sure what her name was she also helped everywhere else too,was so kind nothing was to much for her a little treasure ,if i was to make any sugestions something for the little ones in the evening would be nice if only for an hour also some sort of daily transport from the hotel to the beach would be fab as it seams a shame that so many do not get to see it because of the heat i am sure people would pay a small charge for this maybe the train would go past and stop a couple of times a day at the bottom of the drive ,anyway a lovely holiday with super staff that make you feel very welcome ,i stayed here in 2005 but it was only self catering then ,i found the all inclusive a runaway success once again thank you and be sure i will be back

My wife and I, mother and father and our 5 year old son ETHAN have just retuned from a 2 week AI break at the Iris. If you have read previous reviews you may be getting a hint of deja-vu because we could not rate this hotel and the staff highly enough. George and Isabelle are such lovely hosts and made a real fuss of our son Ethan. They called his name constantly and he responded with kalimera and kalispera; Polly always shouted him for his ice cream and Anna (who worked tirelessly with our breakfasts and lunches) asked him to ring the lunchtime bell! The hotel has three floors with a total of 54 rooms, of which ours had a sea view and was basic and clean. In fact talking of clean the lady who worked on floor 2 cleaning rooms even put our shoes in pairs and in a neat row!! We spent a lot of time around the pool area, which was clean and had plenty of sunbeds. The hotel has options for different boards depending on your needs. Those who did want to self cater prices for breakfast buffet 5.50euros, lunch 6.50euros and dinner 7.50euros, seemed very reasonable as you are able to go back as many times as you want. But I know the staff did go out of their way with any food issues and all you had to do was ask! There was also an a la carte menu too for those wanting burgers, pizzas, spag bol, chicken nuggets, cheese toasties etc.For those interested, the clientèle were mainly Polish and British with a sprinkling of Italians, of whom we made many friends especially Ethan who also learnt phrases like buongiorno and ciao!
We all loved the food, especially trying the Greek dishes, but Ethan who eats his food with his eyes struggled to find food at lunchtime he would eat, but was happily fed and watered at breakfast and dinner. Eating outside was also an added bonus and completely different to some of the bigger hotels we've stayed in and been told that food was not allowed outside! The hotel is situated just outside the town of Afandou, which was a stony path's walk away. A little word of warning- if you imagine the busiest road you know and the smallest village you know and combine the two then that sums up the town centre!! We had to hold onto our son as mopeds and cars continually drove around town and we had no pavement to stand on! But back to the hotel -A real find! If you want somewhere to relax and chill in peace and quiet then this is the place. No loud music or kids clubs but just a friendly hotel, with great staff and great food. Nothing was too much trouble and the staff would help with any issue that arose, including our non flushing toilet- sorted out straight away or sorting out a taxi for fellow guests whose transfer did not arrive! The Iris is a place we need to return to and I have already looked for flights for next year. George and Isabelle we thank you for making our Summer holiday such a special one. Michael, Rach, Ma and Pa and of course ETHAN!! (He misses the dog too!!)
