Hotel "El Andaluz" Europa-Park
Ranked #5 of 21 Hotels in Rust
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 25, 2013

Our family of five spent a weekend at this hotel in a family room. While the kids really liked the bunk beds, I felt that the "rustic" theme was just an excuse to not update the furnishings and décor. The room had one bathroom with a separate room for the parents. There were two bunk beds and a sofa sleeper. The room was relatively clean and I did not notice if it had air conditioning as we did not need it during our stay. The room was located on the ground floor right next to the outside patio. While the double doors blocked out some of the noise, you couldn't escape the cigarette smoke from the bar and the patio. The floors are tile so you can hear people above clicking around in their shoes.

The Don Quichotte restaurant was not very good. We ordered the family meal for dinner because it was a good value, but all the meat was overcooked. The breakfast buffet was a little limited. Be sure to get there early or it will be picked over. Breakfast runs until 10:00. By 9:15 there wasn't much left. We had a better evening meal at the Medici Restaurant in the Italian themed hotel across the road.

The location to the park is perfect as the entrance is behind the hotel. You can easily walk to the other hotels to use the restaurants or bars. Be sure to make reservations for each evening meal. There is a desk in the reception area of El Andaluz that can make them for you at any of the other hotel restaurants.

The best thing about the hotel was the very kind and helpful staff. They noticed at check in that my husband and I were staying over our birthday and they left a nice bottle of champagne and fresh fruit for us. Very nice!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor to escape bar noise and cigarette smoke.

I have a hectic travel schedule. I travel domestically in the US and internationally to Europe several times each quarter. I was in Rust for World Hosting Days, which is a major conference and stayed at the Hotel El Andaluz. I wasn't expecting much when I booked the hotel I just wanted a clean room, internet access so I could work and a hot shower. I got none of these. The hotel told me to wait for internet, wait for hot water and wait for maid service. Seriously, none came. I was surprised that an event of over 4,000 people would support a hotel that put its high-end sponsors in a hotel that did not offer even hot water. We will not be back. We will not participate again. We will not recommend to anyone. There are too many opportunities in Europe and other countries with beautiful places and people to waste time at this event.

Room Tip: Don't stay here unless forced at gunpoint.

The hotel theme is spot on. The designers really went out of their way to get the Spanish feel. Rooms are spotless. However, they could use more to accomodate the 4 star rating, like hot water, fridge, airco. minor point: no internet range. I recommend a visit to the free sauna. Ask for a room around the court yard.

The theme is obviously Spanish, and it's carried right through the hotel.
Lots of rustic exposed wood, lots of olde worlde fittings, lots of Moorish columns, and lots of wrought iron baulstrading.
The trouble is, I've been to Spain, and I haven't stayed in any Spanish hotels that actually look like this!
Never the less, the rooms are clean, the staff friendly and multilingual, the wifi is good, there are restaurants and bars, and you've got one of Europe's biggest amusement parks right outside your hotel
One for the families...

Room Tip: Avoid the lobby rooms on the east side The windows face the monorail station

I stayed at another park hotel, but had to check in at this hotel and have my breakfast there.

Check-in was friendly and quick as there weren't long queues. Person serving me could speak English, but didn't seem to have heard about the fact when you arrive in the afternoon of your first night, you are meant to be given a free last hour pass for the park, which wasted time returning to the hotel to claim it. As it was 5.30pm reception wouldn't give it to me, until exactly 6.30pm (park closed at 7.30pm), even though you would have thought the computer system or the ticket checker would have simply said it cannot be used until that time when I handed it in at the entrance.

Breakfast was quick and efficient, only full fat milk however. Lots of choice of cereals, breakfast meats, bread, pastries, cheeses and yoghurt. The park characters were there to greet you.

I asked in the hotel gift shop if they spoke english, and they said no, so had to shop elsewhere as they could not offer the advice I needed.

There was a baggage room, with lockers. Neither customer relations nor the rest of reception knew how to operate the lockers. When I tried to retrieve my bag from the top drawer and reached up, the whole of the lockers started to fall on top of me and it was dangerously not securely attached to the wall, which I complained about.

Surprisingly for a family park, the bars allowed smoking.

Overall, although a clean modern hotel, and while friendly, service did not seem up to 4 star standards and was more like 2/3 star, but the facilities themselves seemed closer to 4 star. It was very convienient to the park, and is the closest one as it has its own seperate entrance into the park from the restaurant.

Arrived last minute without a reservation, so didn't have much choice of rooms, but requested quiet. It may have been in a quiet area if there had not been bells chiming on a regular basis, and noisy late night revelers outside and in the next room. Our theme room was cute, but with no extra amenties: no kettle, no refrig, no a/c, and extremely dim lighting. The bathroom had no hooks, shampoo or soap, and the door to the bath did not fit the frame. There was no place in the shower to place the shampoo and soap we brought ourselves.

For a couple it was a very poor value for the price. However, there were built-in bunk beds for kids, which would have made it a much better value for a family unless the hotel charged large additional per person amounts for the kids. The restaurant food was mediocre although we had a great table in the glassed enclosure over-looking the flowered courtyard for dinner.

On the plus side, staff was welcoming and friendly, there was free parking and free WiFi, and the location was great for Europa Park. You simply walked out the back of the hotel through the park gate.

The Andaluz hotel at the Europapark resort is the oldest hotel but still in excellent conditions. It's directly located at the theme park and has a direct entrance to the park. The rooms are spacious and very clean, only one comment, the pillows are to small, but when you ask for an extra one their bringing you directly another one. Food is from good quality especially for a theme park (around the resort all food is from good quality and not overpriced!). If you're traveling without childeren or would like a calm hotel at the resort i can recommend you this hotel or the Alcazar or Santa Isabel instead of the Colosseo (last one is to busy witj childeren and to crowdy)
In brief, excellent hotel for your money value and you can have four filling days of fun at the hotel and the park!

Room Tip: Ask a double room if your traveling without childeren, ask if possible a room with the number ending...
