From the moment we drove through the gates of the Abbaye we knew that this was going to be a very special place. An incredible building, steeped in history and beautifully restored and kept it made the perfect backdrop for a breath taking experience. The room we were shown to was tastefully and classically decorated with gorgeous down duvets and pillows and cool crisp Egyptian cotton linen.
Our son's cot was made up just as beautifully. The terrace was adorned with roses and a stunning view over the gardens and swimming pool. We ate a superb dinner and drank delicious well chosen local wines, in the glorious dining room.
Thank you Katie and Peter for a wonderful stay and hope you can fit us in for a stay in September!

We had a most pleasurable stay of 2 nights on the 1st weekend in May 2009. Camon is a quiet, obscure village between Limoux and Mirepoix in the Languedoc (south of Carcassonne), and the view of the village as you drive towards it is dominated by the walls and towers of the historical abbey. Owners Katie and Peter have transformed the abbey into a luxurious inn with amazing medieval features and beautiful grounds. The photos on their website undersell the charm of the building and the beauty of the setting. This is a place to come to relax and leave the city life behind. Sure, they have a PC and wifi in some parts of the chateau if you must, but mobile, blackberry and even GPS reception is spotty in this part of the country and there's no TV in most of the rooms to remind you of the hectic world elsewhere. The bedrooms are all decorated with an individual theme, with tasteful furniture, fluffy duvets, high threadcount linen, charming natural-style toiletries - those on the 1st floor have very tall ceilings and are generally larger, while those on the 2nd floor are cosier, but have better natural light. The original stone spiral staircase leading up to the bedrooms is wide and the steps are low, but those who are wary of staircases should note that it's a bit of a walk up and there are no handrails as of yet. In the mornings, we took breakfast on the porch, looking over the chateau's terraced gardens, the village of Camon, and the lusciously green rolling hills beyond, from the generous breakfast spread of cereals, fruits, charcuturie, cheese, bread & pastries, and chef Tom Sleigh's homemade preserves (greengage, strawberry and apricot when we were there). The swimming pool in the garden looked very inviting but the weather's still a bit cool this weekend for a dip. The restaurant at the chateau is open in the evenings, and the 3-course menu at €38 per person is quite reasonable compared to other restaurants in the region, made all the more so by chef Sleigh's competent and gutsy cuisine. The restaurant's wine list, assembled by Peter with input from Languedoc-based Master of Wine Matthew Stubbs, sources all of its wines from Languedoc-Roussillon (with the sole exception of the champagne Veuve Cliquot), many of which have a rising intenational reputation and are well worth trying. The people, I must say, are what distinctively sets Abbaye Chateau de Camon apart from other similar places, as the owners are very warm hosts who give the impression that they genuiunely care about your stay, and the small group of staff they have put together are attentive and mature professionals (Jane deserves a mention) who take what they do seriously. How Katie & Peter manage to run their place so well and take care of their two young boys at the same time is nothing short of a triumph. Highly recommended.

Great food, wonderful atmosphere, felt totally refreshed after a recent 3 night stay. Katie and Peter - the owners - are great hosts, the chef Tom does the most amazing food. Most enjoyable place I have been to get away and totally relax....cant wait to return...

No need to beat around the bush, if you're reading this GO and STAY at L'Abbaye de Camon. Book right now, there's no need to look elsewhere.

Delightfully picturesque with splendid surroundings, coupled with fantastic food and a wonderfully convivial but understated atmosphere. Will most certainly be heading back.

My wife and I have just returned from a 10 day stay at L'Abbaye Chateau De Camon. What a wonderful experience! First of all the town of Camon is tiny with only 150 residents but at the time we visited there was an explosion of roses which were magnificent.

L'Abbaye is authentically ancient but with excellent hotel services such as fine sheets and modern bathrooms. The owners, a delightful young couple, take great pride in the service and comfort of their guests.

The food is fantastic - and the service in both the hotel and dining rooms is equal to the finest hotels.

The gardens and pool area are beautiful. We explored most of the Cathar castles and the chateau is perfectly situated for these jaunts.

The entire area for about 1.5 hours drive around the chateau is exquisitely beautiful countryside with none of the decay of modern civilization. If you are looking for a truely wonderful experience the chateau is the place to stay.

Having just returned from the most beautiful weekend I cant help but be a little sad to be home!

Friends had their wedding at L'Abbaye & I was lucky to stay there for 3 days. We all felt truly like it was a home from home, the family & staff were so welcoming, the food was amazing & they really gave us a few days to remember.

The gardens are stunning, the views unbeatable, the pool (a little chilly but very refreshing!!) & all in all an experience I will repeat

I could go on and on but brevity can be equally effective.

This simply is the nicest hotel guesthouse I have ever stayed in.

The building, the hosts, the food, the surroundings, tariff. Magic.

Go!
