This is our local " fine dining " experience, when at our French house....the place we go to for our own special occasions, and for those of friends and family who want a special experience....because on every level, it delivers, from the moment you arrive and walk down the inside cloister ( one can easily imagine the monks who have trod before you !) to the wonderful gardens (exquisite in the summer) or the dining salon (ambient in the winter with roaring log fires)
The food, showcasing the produce of the region, is matched with wine from local vineyards, and is always superb, served by friendly and attentive staff, who are knowledgeable about both, and always willing to give advice.
We have been here on many occasions and have never been disappointed, which is why we keep on returning......enough said really ! Many thanks, Katie !!

It all started so well on a warm night in August (the 16th) where heavy storms were forecast for later. The open doors to the chateau lead to a beautiful long ancient corridor upon which a sweet little bell invites one to ring and wait for service. Once rung we were taken through wonderfully decorated rooms to arrive on the terrace for pre dinner drinks. The view was impressive and the flowers on the terrace were humming with humming bird moths. A better start to a restaurant experience would be hard to find. Drinks finished, we were then taken to our table in a beautiful cloistered garden full of colour and history and watched bats silently swoop around as the light started to fade.
Unfortunately the meal experience does not live up to the surroundings, the food isn’t bad and is quite good value for money (€43 per head including VAT/TTC). The set menu comprised of small courses of salmon terrine, melon soup, grilled bream, roast guinea fowl and desserts, all well presented but regrettably uninspired and rushed to our table as though we were at a corporate event in England, a comparison not helped by the fact that all the other diners were actually English!
As the thunder and lightning came closer we decided not to bother with coffee and left disappointed.
Perhaps if we were staying in the hotel, food like this every day would be OK, but for visiting diners it does not hit the mark.

Tom is a great chef, the menu changes every day but they will always ensure that any dietary requirements are catered for. A great local wine list, good quality and served and recommended with panache by Tom's wife Colleen. Eating in the cloisters on a warm evening in early September made our stay very special and the menu was everything and more than we hoped for. This hotel and restaurant is one that everyone should experience at least once. Save up and indulge yourself. The only negative is the €18 for what is a basically a continental breakfast. But still a 10 out of 10.

The menu at L'Abbaye Chateau has evolved into a delightful formula: a thoroughly satisfying but not in the least excessive 5-course menu which combines established favourites with subtle innovation. Quality of ingredients is excellent and the experience is enhanced by the amazing setting and the particularly well-chosen wines, drawn predominantly from star local sources. Service is excellent, under the watchful but unobtrusive eyes of the management, Katie and Peter. Flexibility and willingness to respond to individual requests and requirements are symptomatic of the warm, welcoming style which pervades the peaceful and seductive atmosphere: evenings to remember!
