The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help and inform you.

For a small place ad Montbard, it is exceptional.

Thank Dutch-Mikey

Spoke English. Gave good cycling directions to campsite. Gave us a map with instructions for getting to Fontenay Abbey by bike.

Very helpful person who provided useful tips on the area as well as the driving maps we needed of the region and were unable to get elsewhere. Our French ws limited, and she spoke Engish very well - although she was very modest about her abilities.

Thank Jan M

My wife and l had 4 days before meeting friends in Dijon. So after Eurostar and a trip across Paris to the Gare de Lyon we took a TGV to Montbard, it was only one stop. The tourist office is right outside the station. We called in to confirmed that we had arrived and would pick up our bike the next day as arranged. No problem. They were just as effient in person as they were on the phone and email.
Next day we paid in cash, one copy of one passport, round the back to pick up bikes have them adjusted after a trial ride in the carpark. They came with 21 gears, mudguards, pannier rack, tools and a map carrier (l had maps 129 and 136 should you wonder).
Perfect. A friendly wave goodbye and we were off. Simple as that.
The office is right on the canal so following the signs we were on our way. Every so often we would leave the canal to explore the villages nearby. lt was August but all so quiet. Every so often there is a lock with a cottage. Some abandoned, some in use and full of flowers. We headed Chassy avoiding the hills and stayed 2 nights at a wonderful b&b La Porte Guillier at Semur. Using the canal we spent several hours the at the Alesia site of battle.
After Semur we continued along the canal to Pouilly where the canal goes into a tunnel and you litterally cycle on top of it. Now when we came to a lock we were going down instead of up.
After a really good value B&B Le Pre Verte at Crugey we went on to Dijon. Dropped our bikes off at the Campanile Hotel. They opened a door of the street. ln went our bikes and that was that. No hassle there either. Dijon has a pedestrionised centre and a town trail that was so interesting it took us all day to follow. The fact that we didn't have to go back to where we had hired the bikes from was a fanastic help in planning our trip. As you've guessed l really recommend you do this too.

Cycling along the canals in Burgundy is one of the most delightful things to do in this region. The Montbard Tourist Office rents very new hybrid style bikes that are perfect for the trails. The prices are reasonable. It is located right next to the canal and the train station, so very easy to locate. The attendants in the Office are most pleasant, helpful and and enthusiastic about their region. Each little town along the trail offers lovely sight seeing with several cafes where you can stop for a break.

Thank you for your nice commentary. We are glad that our bike renting service satisfied you. Cycling along the Burgundy Canal is very appreciated by tourists. We rent bikes all through the year for adults and children. If you want to discover our region differently, cycling a good solution.
