“Spacious and comfortable”
Reviewed October 28, 2010

We stayed in the first floor apartment of this wonderful old building. It was spacious and nicely furnished with a very comfortable king size bed (unusual in Europe). As previous reviewers have noted, bread and croissants were left on the doorstep each morning and orange juice and other breakfast ingredients were provided in the fridge. The location is perfect - right in the middle of St Emilion. One night we bought a delicious cassoulet and some wonderful fresh goat cheese from the shop next door (same owner as the apartments). We enjoyed it "at home" with a good bottle of wine - a nice change after 10 days of eating in restaurants, even very good ones!

This accomodation was everything my husband and I could have hoped for during our three day stay in beautiful Saint-Emilion. This warm and tastefully appointed apartment offers a living and dining area, a kitchenette, bedroom (we thought the bed was very comfortable contrary to one of the other reviews here), and a nicely tiled bathroom with great shower. What's more: each morning we received fresh bread and warm croissants delivered to our doorstep; we had free internet access; and we loved being situated on a quiet pedistration street just above a delightful little shop that sells fresh cheeses, wines, foie gras, jams, and more. If you're lucky you might score one of the very few parking spots available to delivery vehicles and residents on the one-way Rue de la Porte Bouqueyre. Otherwise it's not really a big deal. You just park up the road in a designated parking area and walk a little ways down the cobblestones with your rolling suitcase bucking wildly behind you (even bucking, this is when you're thankful to the inventor of wheels on suitcases). The B&B owner was very hospitable and helpful. He also produces his own wine which you should try from the shop downstairs. Do check out the little restaurant almost right next door called the L'Huitrier - Pie. It was one of our best meals in France!

My husband and I stayed in the room on the lowest level and my parents stayed in the room above that. In general we found it very adequate to our needs and it definitely had charm.

Cons:
Beds were a little hard, but this wasn't a major problem.
My mother found the kitchen on the small side
the lower room had a bit of a cave feeling as the ceiling is quite low, but there is plenty of light from the windows

Pros:
The upper room had a nice high ceiling, and nice views.
The lounges of both apartments were very comfortable
The rooms were all tastefully decorated, and the place had a pleasant atmosphere.
The location was lovely, with the boulangerie (bakery) just down the road.
It was very clean.
We had a washing machine/tumble dryer in each room which was great since we were on a long trip.
The bathroom was nice and had a great shower

A note on the bird noises - My husband and I were awakened early the first morning by the caged budgies below our window, but after that we grew accustomed to the sound and didn't really notice it.

Durting our 4 week trip to France and Italy, Les Logis du Roy was the largest, cleanest and best place we stayed, which says a lot as we stayed only in 4 and 5 star hotels. Pierre, the owner, also owns the shop next door. St Emillion is a small village and Les Logis is on the main street. (since visitor cars are not allowed in the city, traffic or noise was not a problem). It is easy to find if you take the time to read the large placard on the door. We stayed in the Magnum suite, which, costwise, was one of the best deals on our trip. It has a large bedroom, large bath with shower and washer/dryer, full kitchen, and large living room. the front windows allow you to overlook the cobblestone street, and the bedroom window opens to a courtyard. For late sleepers (like us), full shutters close off the bedroom window and A/C allows for a peaceful night. Yes, open the shutters and windows and you are greeted with singing birds in the AM. The Fridge was stocked with fresh OJ, fresh milk, coffee (with a pot), jams and jellys, and fresh croissants and pasteries were left on the doorstep every morning. From the limestone walls to the circular staircase lined with local bottles of wine, everything about our stay was magical and enchanting! And the interior of the suite was modern, tastefully decorated, and spotless! Pierre also shared with us a bottle of wine from his own vineyard, and recommended places to eat that were as satisfying as the suite. We will stay at Les Logis du Roy everytime we are fortunate enough to visit St Emillion!

Incredibly difficult to find, even the locals had no idea where it was! Waited for about 15 min before any help. Bed was horribly hard, and really loud chirping birds woke us up at about 3 am. Clean room, and bathroom, and location is good.
