Constructed in the early 12th century, the church is partly underground, with a small catacomb beneath, were dug into a rocky hillside. The church also possesses a 53-meter-high bell-tower that creates a visible landmark.

Not the grandest of churches but certainly interesting as one of the few if not the only church to have been built underground into the mountain. Unfortunately, there is very little to see once inside which makes it an average site. Worth a visit if in Saint-Emilion but not worth a special trip to see it.

Tall people mind your head! The tour is in two parts - with the catacombs first. Then the church itself - hewn from the rock. A pity that the central tower foundations had to be strengthened due to water erosion but still impressive nonetheless.

This is a real must but make sure you have the time to discover the underground "galleries" as well as the Church.
