Along with a couple of good friends we spent one night staying in the converted vineyard workers' cottage set amongst the vines of Chateau Troplong-Mondot. It's hard to put into words how perfect it was.

The cottage is beautifully located a short walk from the Chateau itself and the restaurant where you have breakfast. You can also walk into St Emilion in around 20 minutes amongst the vines. The cottage has been modernised and very tastefully furnished with an enormous living room and two spacious bedrooms with state of the art bathrooms. It has everything you would expect from a 5 star experience and with the cost shared between two couples I consider represents excellent value considering the quality.

Sitting outside on the four comfy chairs with the view through the vines up to the chateau sipping a glass of wine is an experience that will stay with us all for a long time. And breakfast the following morning on the terrace showed us how excellent the service is from the staff and the kitchen with their own vanilla yoghurt being exceptional.

As part of the Les Belles Perdrix at Chateau Troplong Mondot, there are a couple of other accommodation options which may well be suited for a couple staying on their own rather than two couples.

Lunch review: A stunning setting outside St Emilion but have lunch only if weather is good and you can secure outside table as inside is rather dreary (weird Asian artefacts in a room they are v proud of for some reason). Choice of only 2 things per course. Starter, we chose sea bream carpaccio - bland, nothing special. Mains were super - pork and cod. Glass of Entre-Deux-Mers was great but glass of aged Troplong was mediocre (we concluded, after years of debate, we don't like Merlot - OK not their fault...). Puddings over fussy and not more tasty for all the labour. Truly nouveau-cuisine-ish. Gone out of fashion elsewhere. Somehow a more straightforward, simple approach to fresh ingredients would have suited this setting more. Worth it for relaxed sitting on terrace in sun but wouldn't return. Dog-friendly is a plus. Good service.

Found this B&B (well that it an understatement) while checking if there was anywhere else around St Emilion to stay rather than in the village itself, as we had done before. The B&B is part of the Troplong Mondot vineyard. There are only three rooms and we had 'the Workshop', a two bedroom, large living room barn conversion overlooking the vineyard and St Emilion at the bottom of the hill.

We weren't disappointed, although not the cheapest place to stay, the atmosphere (looking down over the Troplong Mondot vineyard to St Emilion) and high standard of renovation and furnishing make it the ideal place to enjoy St Emilion from. You can walk to St Emilion, through the vineyards, in 15 minutes and to cap the experience there is an excellent (maybe the best in St Emilion) restaurant also on site - see separate review

Room Tip: The Workshop has views of St Emilion from the Bedroom and Lounge

Absolutely great location. fantastic view from the window of the great apartament - Saint Emilion and winery. It should be better describe how to get to this apartament. We had some trouble even with gps.
At the apartment we found a letter: Please do not drink or eat anything What was bought away from this apartament. or somethig in this way.
If you want to drink coffie you will find Nescaffe express (Nespresso) and capsules but you must say good bye to 2,5 euro with every cup of exellent coffie . It was realy radiculous. the price for this apartment was not chaep. Maybe in the price of the coffie is add the tax for the view?!
If you think that for this price your towels would be changed every day like in many hotels is- it could be difficult here.
If you expect to meet the wine ghost here, Maybe you are at the correct place. I will rather try to find somethig else next time.

Dear Sir,
I have read your opinion and take the opportunity to make a few comments.
Château Troplong Mondot and les Belles Perdrix de Troplong Mondot are located 2km from the center of Saint-Emilion, in the middle of a vineyard of 33 hectares in front of the medieval city. This is the particularity that contributes to the charm of the Belles Perdrix and that our clients are looking for, especially that our buildings right in the middle of the domain, peaceful and calm.
On a modern GPS it’s very easy to find us, you need to indicate “lieu dit Mondot”, our website gives precisely the longitude and latitude (0°0827 West / 44°5318 North). I remind you as well that we have two phone numbers at the disposal of our clients to help them in any ways. I do not know if Polish tourism and hotel sites are as well indicated as ours to foreign tourists, but I think your opinion is being very severe. Why won’t you read again the instructions of your GPS?
You are referring to the banning of bringing your own food or drinks in the rooms. You are correct, it is forbidden but I think you have forgotten that 17 people, between the 3 rooms, the terrace, the swimming pool and the restaurant are here to provide you with anything you might need.
If you needed only one bed, effectively you were at the wrong address.
The price of your room, a suite which actually has 2 rooms, a large living room decorated with old furniture and paintings, a bathroom and a large entrance, as well as a large flat screen TV, Blu-ray player, satellite, free WIFI, an IPOD docking station and finally a large open fireplace with wood delivered to your doorstep all of this for a surface area of more than 150 square meters with a direct view on the village of Saint-Emilion through 5 windows for 250€ for 2 people breakfast included.
As for the towels and bed linen, by respect towards nature, like in most eco-friendly luxurious French establishments (and even in 5 star hotels yes), they are changed every two days except if it is otherwise specified by the client.
I remain, if you wish, at your disposal, in case you would come back in our beautiful region, to suggest you houses that will be at your convenience, they will be very pleased to receive you.

Beautiful grounds. We stayed in the Mahogony room. Quite nice. There are only three rooms on the property. Great views. An easy walk to town. Dinner was wonderful. Reservations a must. Breakfast was the same every morning which was fine because it was soooo good. The staff, the utmost professional and pleasant. I can't think of one complaint.

This is the accommodation arm of Chateau Troplong Mondot. Arrived for two night stay, very welcoming reception and lovely (Mahogany) room. Comfortable bed, fab bathroom and shower but rather dark due to being converted ?stables. What superlatives can I use for the restaurant?? I think it would be fair to say that it was the best French food we have ever had!! Go for the 50 Euro set menu, excellent value for money. Wine excellent, recommend the Chateau's Grand Cru St.Emillion
Breakfast on the terrace overlooking the World Heritage Site of St.Emillion - then can walk down to the town it'self (and by wine in the square - they ship!!)

Room Tip: Mahogany room very good and quite, if a little dark

My fiancee and I (from Manhattan) stayed at Les Belles Perdrix during our visit to St. Emilion. We stayed in the "Vineyard House." Our friends stayed in the "Mahogany Room."

Overall, a superb experience. The Vineyard House is a little French farmhouse in the middle of the vineyard (Chateau Troplong Mondot - an excellent house). Does it get any better? On top of that, the B&B offers a wonderful little restaurant and an opportunity to tour the vineyard itself (our tour guide was Marie, who was excellent). The B&B is also a 15 minute walk (nice walk) to the town of St. Emilion.

Les Belles Perdrix - we will be back!
