“Very interesting visit”

Chateau Franc Mayne

The main feature was in our opinion the underground quarry that is now used as a wine cave. The historical elements integrated in the visit make it very interesting for anyone near St-Emilion.

This winery also being a hotel, it has a very beautiful garden to relax in after the visit.

We booked this through a boutique luxury website so I was expecting the place to be exactly that. The place îs beautiful, as are the surrounding Chateaus. This is fantastically placed as it is a stones throw away from the town of Saint Emillion. The rooms are nice but could be better. We stayed in one of the African inspired rooms. The room was a good size but I didn't like the fact that there is no door for the bathroom! Instead there is a curved wall which looks very nice but very impractical. The toilet is positioned in such a way that you can see it in full view from the bed. I don't need to see my husband on the throne! Some things are best hidden! Also the walls are quite thin so if the adjoining room has their TV on or in our case another couple joining them for a little chat you can hear it all! We had our 5 month old baby so there was good room for the travel
cot but the no door on the bathroom meant having to go to the loo in the night in the dark! however these are small things that you can live with.
What really made it disappointing was that there is no restaurant. A very basic breakfast of fruit and croissant can be ordered for 15euros per person and you can ask for a simple supper to be prepared with some notice. I think the owners are missing a trick. If they provided good food I think the place would be A Class. This is best suited for couples and those arriving by car. The wine tour and tasting was probably my highlight and all the staff were delightful and speak excellent English.
