Don't come to Saint Emilion unless you have a confirmed reservation at this resto. This is a must-go place.
I could sense that something difference was going to happen. First, the owner, Jean Claude Kocher, insisted on reconfirmation on the morning of the day of the reservation. Though it may sound casual, he is serious about it and will hunt you down to ascertain your confirmation. All evening he was turning away diners without reservations. Second, he divided our group into 3 separate tables without asking us; that was unprecedented. You have to understand that his resto is very small and unable to be configured with one long table for 12. Finally, he was totally aghast when one of our friends wanted to share a plate. After his "impossible" exclamation, he approached me to tell me that I needed to tell my friends that the policy of the resto is one menu, one guest. He didn't come back for another 20 minutes to continue getting the orders. He had calmed down. We were amused but understood.
After finishing off the 31€ menu du jour of salmon starter, magret main, and apricot tartlet dessert, I concluded that this meal of the best of the trip--hands down.

It has been about 2 months since our visit. I have to say that getting to the restaurant is more memorable than the meal itself. One can approach the restaurant from the upper town or the lower town. The latter is recommended since the restaurant is located closer to the bottom of a very steep and very slippery street which should be made into a stairway. For some (but not all) portions of the street there are handrails for pedestrians to hold onto. All this is a shame because this is a very fine restaurant. We were fortunate to eat in the cellar room. We enjoyed the langoustines and risotto to start. We thought our main entree, the duck breast, was a bit tough. It was quite thick and not cut as is typical for this dish. The wine list is comprehensive; we had a very good 2000 Faugeres. The service was excellent.

Le tertre was recommended by local and we really enjoy it.
The food is "semi-gastronomic" (French cuisine) and the service was very friendly.

Tip: book in advance and ask for the table in the cellar. It looks very nice

We went there in a group of 6 and had a pleasant lunch. The prices are expensive but the meal worth every penny.

Great selection of wines for all pockets.

The restaurant is very pretty and has a lovely decor. The staff were fabulous and could not have been more helpful and friendly. The food was extremely good and the wine recommended to us went well with our chosen dishes. Well worth a visit. One tip though - ladies the road is not easy to walk up or down in high heels!!
