Our stay at Posada Amazonas was short - three days - but it was something that we will never forget. Starting with the transfer from the airport, we knew we were in for an experience that was different from anything we had come across before.

Arriving by motorised canoe on the Tambopata river, we had a short walk through the rainforest to the lodge. It is largely constructed out of wood and local materials, designed to be as open as possible, to allow the forest air to flow through, whilst protecting visitors from the elements. The whole construction is several feet above ground level, and different parts of the lodge are connected by wooden walkways.

The rooms, whilst simple, are comfortable and relaxing; ours had two double beds with mosquito nets and a hammock, with adjoining bathroom. One side of the room was open, giving the feeling of being part of the jungle environment.

Due to its remote location, the lodge only has electricity twice a day; around midday and then for several hours in the evening. Although this may sound primitive, we found it quite adequate - there were opportunities to charge battery-powered devices such as mobile phones, camera batteries, etc., and we had Internet access twice a day, giving us ample opportunity to check emails, etc. During hours of darkness the lodge is lit by kerosene lamps - simple, but effective.

The bar was well up to standard, as were the dining facilities, and the meals were varied and delicious.

The guides were excellent. They were highly knowledgeable about the flora, fauna and culture of the area, but above all they were passionate about it, and were keen to pass on their enthusiasm to the visitors. Trips were well organised and adequate attention was given to health and safety.

Overall, we really couldn't fault the place. If we had had time, it would have been great to use the lodge as a base for further explorations in the area, particularly to get to know the wildlife better.

Beautiful, relaxing, nature all around, would stay there again for sure! The location was great. Food was great. Boat rides were fun, fishing, bird watching and the nature walks were amazing. The weather was great. I wouldn’t have changed a thing except spend more time there. Bugs weren’t really much of a bother- if you spray yourself as instructed by the staff.

If you're looking to learn about nature, meet people from an amazing culture and live like a colonial pioneer, this is the trip for you. Far from "roughing it" this lodge was well designed and perfectly maintained. The food is amazing. Our guides we very knowledgeable. It ended up being the highlight of our trip, even over Macchu Picchu!

Our stay at the lodge was one of the highlights of our trip. It was an amazing experience which was enhanced by the passion and enthusiasm of our tour guide Evo. The service was great and it was good to know that the lodge respected its environment and tried to minimize its impact on the rainforest. The layout of the lodge was really good because it really made us feel in touch with rainforest but was also very relaxing and comfortable environment. Another great point was that the lodge worked alongside the community and gave back to the people living in the surrounding areas. The best thing would have to be the various wildlife we got to get up and close too. Amazing
